Angelina Jolie: Mom Watched Dad Win Oscar With His Mistress

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to share a captivating moment from the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival last Thursday. Angelina Jolie, in her acceptance speech for the Maltin Modern Master Award, disclosed a deeply intimate family tale.

In the year 1976, when she was just under a year old, her mother Marcheline Bertrand parted ways with her well-known father Jon Voight following five years of marriage due to infidelity accusations. The individual in question is now 49 years old and is often referred to as a ‘nepo-baby’ (short for nepotism baby).

Three years after their divorce in 1980, Marcheline found herself tuned to ABC, watching the 51st Academy Awards. To her surprise, her former husband was announced as the winner of the Best Actor award for his performance in Coming Home.

Angelina reminisced at the Arlington Theatre, sharing that during her younger years, she had two young siblings at home while her aspiration was to become an actress, a fact about her mother that she recounted.

She was around twenty-five years old, having given birth at a relatively young age. Once divorced from a well-known individual, she spent her time nurturing her children within their apartment, while he won an Oscar alongside another woman.

It turned out that the woman in question was Stacey Pickren, an actress, who shared the screen with the 86-year-old actor from Megalopolis in three movies: “Coming Home,” “Lookin’ to Get Out,” and “Runaway Train.

‘It was kind of just a part of our family history,’ Jolie explained.

It’s clear to me Bertrand was there for my brother and me, a decision she made willingly. That particular night’s emotions she experienced have always left a deep impression on me.

When that past Hollywood free spirit received the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2000, she promptly phoned her cherished mother, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 56 following an eight-year fight against both ovarian and breast cancer.

After leaving the stage, calling her up and telling her, ‘It’s all yours,’ – a moment I gifted her – ranks among the best experiences of my life,” Angelina said with a smile.

In the year 2002, Jolie officially changed her last name, and though she had an up-and-down connection with Voight, their bond remained strained even as she followed in her family’s footsteps closely.

In one instance, a woman who had been married three times and was the mother of six children betrayed her partner from the movie “Playing God”, Timothy Hutton, by having an affair with her co-star from “Pushing Tin”, Billy Bob Thornton. At the time, Billy Bob was in a relationship with Laura Dern, but they unexpectedly got married secretly in Las Vegas in 2000.

In 2004, Angelina Jolie developed a well-known affection for her co-star Brad Pitt from the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. However, at that time, he was still married to Jennifer Aniston. They didn’t make their relationship public until three months after the couple officially separated in 2005 following legal proceedings.

On Thursday, the esteemed Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Ava DuVernay, bestowed Angelina Jolie with the peak accolade of the festival, an honor reserved for those who significantly contribute to our cultural landscape by excelling within the realm of cinema.

In a Brunello Cucinelli silk dress and coordinating tailored jacket, the founder-designer of Atelier Jolie showcased her intricately tattooed back, accessorized with Nak Armstrong jewelry chosen by stylist Dena Neustadter Giannini.

Angelina Jolie is set to receive a Best Actress award nomination for her lead role in Pablo Larraín’s biopic about renowned opera singer Maria Callas. This upcoming recognition will be at the 30th Critics’ Choice Awards, which are scheduled to broadcast this Friday on E!/Peacock.

Jolie encounters stiff competition from Cynthia Erivo of Wicked, Karla Sofía Gascón from Emilia Pérez, Marianne Jean-Baptiste of Hard Truths, Mikey Madison in Anora, and Demi Moore in The Substance.

This 122-minute movie labeled as a ‘hallucinogenic drama’ is currently enjoying an impressive 75% approval from critics, based on 202 reviews, and a similarly high 76% rating among the audience, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

In a sequence of three groundbreaking films about remarkable women, Maria represents the concluding part following Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021). These two earlier films garnered Academy Award nominations for Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart respectively.

A Tony award-winning producer, without any prior experience in singing publicly or on screen, invested seven months in honing her vocals under the tutelage of Eric Vetro, a vocal coach, and had subtle changes made to her nasal appearance by Arjen Tuiten, a prosthetics designer, making her nose appear slightly larger but still barely noticeable.

Angelina, fresh from filming her part in Alice Winocour’s Parisian drama titled Stitches, hasn’t revealed the launch date for her upcoming directorial project, titled Without Blood. This film is expected to be distributed globally by Fremantle.
