Angelina Jolie will reunite with Mr & Mrs Smith director Doug Liman on a brand-new spy thriller.
Based on information from The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is working towards securing the rights for an upcoming production titled “The Initiative”, which stars Angelina Jolie and is being directed by Liman.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to hop on board for an exciting new project! Known for my work in movies like Collide (2016) and xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), I’ll be putting pen to paper and crafting the script myself. Can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead!
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about an upcoming project that has been intriguingly described as a “Training Day”-esque tale set in the thrilling realm of espionage. Known as “The Initiative“, this series is rumored to revolve around a rule-breaking master spy, Bright (played by Jolie), who has made quite a name for herself in the world of covert operations. However, things take an interesting turn when a new recruit named Charlie joins her team, causing doubts about Bright’s unconventional methods. I can hardly wait to see how this unfolds!
At this moment, we don’t have a fixed launch date just yet, as filming might start in Q1 of 2026, according to THR’s report.
Although The Initiative is still in its initial phases, Jolie has decided to shift her focus towards a different upcoming project slated for its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival within the coming month.

Set to portray the role of American filmmaker Maxine Walker, Jolie is collaborating with French director Alice Winocour on “Couture,” a dramatic film unfolding during the week of Paris Fashion Week.
Through Tiff, Couture interlaces narratives of women and young girls from Ukraine, France, and Sudan as they prepare for a forthcoming fashion show.
The movie’s synopsis goes like this: “Maxine, a renowned American film director, journeys to Paris to oversee a video production for a high-end fashion event. Despite viewing fashion as superfluous and excess, the monetary rewards are enticing, considering her financial obligations. Amidst a divorce, motherhood of a teenage daughter, and planning her next movie project, Maxine’s life is meticulously organized. However, this balance is soon disrupted when she receives a severe medical prognosis.

Maxine’s personal predicament connects with two other individuals she meets at work: Angèle (played by Ella Rumpf), a long-time makeup artist penning a book inspired by her professional journey, and Ada (Anyier Anei), a recent university graduate from Nairobi who has been scouted as a model and is now embarking on an unfamiliar career path. Both women find themselves faced with various choices, some minor and others impactful, requiring them to make critical decisions that will alter the course of their lives.
The Initiative has yet to receive a release date.
The latest edition of Digital Spy’s print issue has arrived! You can purchase the Oasis – Live in ’25’ magazine from newsstands or online for only £8.99.
