Angelina Jolie hints at the ‘despair’ and ‘pain’ of her divorce from Brad Pitt as she arrives at the Venice Film Festival photocall for her heartbreaking new movie Maria

She said: ‘Everybody here knows I was terribly nervous about the singing. I spent almost seven months training because when you work with (director) Pablo (Larrain) you cant do anything by half.
‘He demands in a most wonderful way that that you really do the work and really learn and train .
The first time I sang, I was so anxious because my sons were present. They stepped in to prevent anyone else from entering the room.
Initially, I was nervous. Pablo, with his kindness, guided me from a modest room to the stage of La Scala. Essentially, he provided me with an opportunity to develop. Admittedly, I was terrified of meeting expectations, especially since I hadn’t performed publicly before.
Pablo Larrain expressed that the movie was a tribute honoring Callas’ life, while Jolie conveyed her hope that the singer understood at the film’s completion just how cherished she was.
Known as the finest operatic voice ever, Maria Callas passed away at the age of 53 in 1977 following a time of poor health and seclusion.
She had been heartbroken after husband Ari Onassis abandoned her for JFK’s widow Jackie Kennedy.
Jolie expressed a strong connection with Callas, mentioning, “There are many things unsaid in this room about her that you may already know or can guess.”
It seems that I resonate most with her sensitive side. I believe she wasn’t afforded the space to express such sensitivity and emotional openness in the world, but what we seem to have in common is our shared vulnerability.

It’s quite probable that Angelina will leave Venice directly after the Thursday evening premiere of Maria, while Brad is expected to arrive in town by Sunday night for his own premiere.
