Andy Samberg’s New Super Bowl Ad Is Hilarious, Disturbing And Makes Me Think About Squirting Mayonnaise Too Much

When you need a comedian to dress up like Neil Diamond for a silly song about mayonnaise, friendship, and a hot dog with a personality, you want the best. That’s why Hellmann’s chose Andy Samberg, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live and co-founder of Lonely Island, for their new Super Bowl commercial.

You might remember the cast of When Harry Met Sally getting back together in 2025, or the funny mayo commercials with Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson in 2024. Those were fun, but Andy Samberg’s performance as the, well, interesting Meal Diamond is on another level! The ad playfully references Sam Cooke’s classic song “Sweet Caroline” and also features Heidi Gardner, another SNL alum, who thankfully avoids the messy mayo mishaps – and that’s definitely a good thing.

Watch the one-minute commercial below. It will probably be shortened to 30 seconds for the Super Bowl broadcast.

To be honest, if I randomly saw Andy Samberg dressed like that in public, I might not recognize him right away. But I’d definitely notice something was off, especially because of his unusual amount of upper body hair.

Maybe it’s the excessive fluffiness, but something about that ad really bothers me, especially the part where someone casually lifts the top off people’s sandwiches. It’s a major invasion of personal space!

I find the random spraying of mayonnaise on people’s food deeply unsettling, and I’d rather not dwell on the details. While the ad’s accuracy in aiming the spray is impressive, just imagining mayonnaise landing on drinks and clothes is enough to make me want to leave the scene. The sound design in the commercial is remarkably realistic, which adds to the discomfort.

Just as you start to get used to the singer performing during dinner, things take a bizarre turn. He claims to live inside the walls, which apparently means the walls are filled with old mayonnaise – the absolute worst kind of insulation you could imagine.

Super Bowl LX will be broadcast on NBC (and streamed on Peacock) on February 9, 2026, and more commercials are still to come. For those interested in a tribute to Neil Diamond, Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star in the film Song Sung Blue.
