Andy Lee hits back after being slammed for his extravagant renovation featuring TWO mansions with a tunnel connecting them: ‘Definitely lost touch with the common man’

Andy Lee retaliated following criticism over his lavish renovation ideas for his residence in Melbourne.

The comedian, aged 44, along with his partner Rebecca, 35, have been working diligently for the past two years on renovating an old, 150-year-old house situated near the Yarra River in Melbourne.

During the ongoing renovation project, Andy recently shared on Instagram that his and Rebecca’s restoration work will include linking two grand houses through a connecting tunnel.

Many slammed the comedian’s extravagant design and accused him of ‘being out of touch’.

One person remarked, “We’ve grown apart,” while another penned, “I wonder how many individuals reside here.

‘Lost touch with the common man for sure,’ a third commented.

On both perspectives, it seems like a contemporary eyesore has taken over! One can’t help but wonder, what led to the obscuring of the beautiful riverside scenery?

Andy hit back at the backlash and explained the couple plan to use the old house as an office.

[We have] plans to have an office each upstairs and a guest room on the ground floor,’ he said.

‘It’s designed so guests can visit but also have their own space.’

In the video posted to Instagram, Andy explained his extensive building plans to fans.

Andy started by saying, “Many folks have been questioning our plans for this house. Frankly, it’s a question that has crossed my mind too.

As an ardent admirer, I’ve got a fascinating observation to share! It seems there’s been a bit of a mix-up: what we commonly refer to as the ‘back’ of this marvelous structure, is actually its ‘front’! The reason being, it was originally accessed via the Yarra. Quite intriguing, isn’t it?

Subsequently, he disclosed that the resolution for the issue involved constructing another dwelling behind the initial building, linking them together through an underground passage.

‘We need to preserve that and that’s where you’d normally build off for an extension,’ he said.

The architects came up with an excellent plan – they suggested building slightly farther away to create space for a brand-new structure, which they called ‘the river house’. A lovely piazza would connect it with the existing ‘heritage house’, allowing us to admire both buildings from the new river house.

‘They’ve also created a tunnel between the two so it’s connected.’

In the throes of pure excitement, I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm as he unveiled stunning architectural renderings of the soon-to-be-realized river house. Every detail he revealed only served to fuel my anticipation for this remarkable project!

As a dedicated follower, I excitedly share that I’ve been part of the team making a choice to adorn our new construction with an aged copper reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty. This gives the structure a rich green-blue hue, creating a sense of warmth and allowing it to blend seamlessly with the sky. Andry explained this decision.

He mentioned that the plans received his partner’s consent, stating instead: “Bec absolutely loved what she saw.

In 2023, Andy and Rebecca started a significant renovation project on their luxurious Italian-style estate, which is projected to cost approximately $5 million.

The comedian has been diligently working on renovating Ravenswood, an old mansion in Melbourne that he purchased for $8.5 million in 2021, remodeling it similar to a project on The Block.

The couple won council approval for their development application in June 2023.

Among the exciting features scheduled for the 1,950 sq. meter property are a private cinema, fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, and an expansive master suite (often referred to as the “mega bedroom”).
