Andy Cohen details getting ‘physical’ with John Mayer on drunken night out: ‘We love each other deeply’

Andy Cohen is opening up about his famously close friendship with John Mayer.

On Wednesday’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the 57-year-old Emmy-winning producer openly talked about their usual nights out and revealed that drinks sometimes lead to physical intimacy between them.

“It’s our tradition to go to dinner,” Cohen said. “We always request the same booth – it’s become our special place.”

I’ve noticed that Andy and Jeff, even though they’re not the touchy-feely type, definitely get closer as the night goes on. It’s sweet to see how comfortable they are with each other, and things tend to get more affectionate the longer they spend together.

Cohen shared that she often finds herself drawn to him when he puts his arm around her. She recounted a recent experience at the Sunset Tower where she became quite affectionate with him, to the point where he playfully called her name, ‘Andy.’

The host of Watch What Happens Live explained that the playful vibe happened because he was ‘using John’s body to illustrate a story about a male character.’

Oh my gosh, he actually said it! He admitted he’d had a little bit to drink – he used that adorable old phrase, ‘in my cups,’ which just makes it even better! And then he talked about how they were all laughing together, just completely lost in the moment. But the best part? He said they really love each other. Like, truly, deeply love each other. I knew it! I just knew it!

I was totally glued to the show when Alex Cooper asked if Jeff Cohen had a secret crush on Andy Mayer! Jeff didn’t even pause before saying no, but he did admit there’s something really unique about their bond. It was fascinating to watch him navigate that question!

I’m not just secretly attracted to him – we genuinely love each other,” Cohen explained. “If I could find someone exactly like him who was also gay, that would be amazing. But honestly, I’m just really thankful for the love we share.”

Sacha Cohen and Isla Fisher have been close friends for over ten years, leading fans to often wonder if their relationship has ever been romantic.

They’re often seen together at events and love to praise each other publicly, but they both maintain they’re just friends.

During the Call Her Daddy interview, Cohen revealed that Mayer had actually given him some encouraging words beforehand.

Cohen said they FaceTimed the day before, and John told them, ‘You’ve got this! Go out there and do your thing – you know what you’re doing.’ Cohen ended the conversation saying, ‘Love you, John.’

Cohen playfully asked Mayer what his answer would be if someone asked for help with their music career, and then imitated what he thought Mayer would say, finishing with a cheerful, ‘Absolutely, baby!’

Even though some people think of their connection as something out of a romantic comedy, Cohen says he’s content with their friendship just the way it is – a close, loving, and fun relationship.

‘I’m so grateful for the love that we have,’ he said.

Last year, Cohen denied he and Mayer were in a romantic relationship.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sacha Baron Cohen discussed his close friendship with John Mayer. Cohen stated that he and Mayer have a genuine affection for each other, but people often mistakenly assume they are romantically involved. He clarified that this is absolutely not the case, and the misunderstanding likely stems from their openly affectionate dynamic.

In 2023, Cohen insisted that his affection for Mayer had never gotten physical.

After some convincing from Howard, Andy promised—even swearing on his children, Ben and Lucy—that he and John have always been strictly friends.

Cohen confessed to Howard Stern, known as the ‘King of All Media,’ that she and John Mayer are in love with each other.

Howard asked Andy to swear there had never been anything sexual between him and John Mayer, and Andy immediately affirmed, saying, ‘I swear.’

Oh my gosh, back in 2018, he actually told CNN about us! He said we had a ‘very sweet friendship’ and, get this, a ‘great love for each other!’ I replay that interview constantly, it’s just… everything!

He playfully said he’d like a partner like John Mayer, then quickly added that he really wants someone strong, independent, intelligent, and with their own passions and interests.

While Cohen is openly gay, Mayer has only publicly dated women.

This musician has previously dated several well-known celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson, and Minka Kelly.

In May 2024, Mayer publicly responded to speculation about his relationship with Cohen in a letter to The Hollywood Reporter.

He believes questioning the nature of his friendship with Andy implies a lack of public acceptance and understanding of diversity in all areas of life, including art and relationships. He hopes people are able to recognize their connection without automatically assuming it’s romantic or sexual, as he stated in an email.
