The much-anticipated movie featuring Andrew Scott and Ethan Hawke, titled Blue Moon, has set its United Kingdom premiere date.
In the 1940s, the film directed by renowned filmmaker Richard Linklater tells a story about songwriter Lorenz Hart, portrayed by Hawke. After the debut of the musical Oklahoma!, written by his ex-collaborator Richard Rodgers (Scott), Hart grapples with his damaged self-esteem.
Featuring a star-studded lineup with Margaret Qualley and Bobby Cannavale, the long-awaited movie titled “Blue Moon” has officially announced its UK release date. The period drama is now scheduled to premiere in cinemas on 14 November.
At the 75th Berlin International Film Festival back in February, I had the pleasure of watching a movie penned by Robert Kaplow. Upon its debut, it garnered positive responses from critics, and I was fortunate enough to witness the award bestowed upon Michael Sheen for his exceptional supporting role – a well-deserved recognition indeed!
Additionally, the movie boasts an almost flawless approval on Rotten Tomatoes based on its initial 26 reviews, maintaining a remarkable 96% score. Similarly, its preliminary rating on IMDb is favorable, sitting at 7.3 out of 10.
Blue Moon believes that we are interested in tackling significant topics through thoughtful discussion,” stated Slant Magazine as they commended Hawke’s leading role, while Variety admired the “excellent dialogue” in the drama they referred to as “shining”.
According to Next Best Picture, while Blue Moon might not be as universally appealing or emotionally engaging as Richard Linklater’s previous works, it offers a rich and rewarding experience for viewers who are open to its soothing, romantic flow.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “I can vouch for Linklater’s knack for eliciting raw, heartfelt performances from Ethan Hawke. In this film, he shines brighter than ever. His on-screen chemistry with Scott, which was powerfully captivating in ‘All of Us Strangers’, is spot on here.
Currently known for his roles in Sherlock and Fleabag, Scott is now stepping into a new challenge as a cast member of the legal thriller A Place in Hell. The upcoming project will find him sharing screen time with Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Blue Moon is in cinemas on 14 November in the UK and 17 October in the US.
