I’m still holding out hope to see Andrew Garfield reprise his role someday, but honestly, it feels pretty unlikely. It’s tough to say for sure, but as a big fan of his Spider-Man movies, I have a feeling we’re all in for some disappointing news eventually. It just feels like that chapter might be closing, and it’s a little heartbreaking.
As Tom Holland gets ready for the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day this summer, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man films are leaving Netflix. Both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will no longer be available on the streaming service starting March 1st.
Viewers who enjoyed the Los Angeles-based creator’s work on other streaming services are in luck! Both shows have moved to Disney+, where they are now available for subscribers – a win for fans after they were removed from Netflix.
Considering Andrew Garfield’s history with Spider-Man, especially since his last films were released in 2012 and 2014, it’s unlikely he’ll return for future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects or any other Spider-Man movies, as Garfield himself has indicated.
In a recent interview with GQ, Andrew Garfield firmly shut down rumors about a potential return as Spider-Man. He stated, with a serious expression, “Unequivocally, no… It’s not happening, and I don’t think it ever will.” He added that he appreciated fans wanting it to happen.
Is Marvel Done With Andrew Garfield and The Amazing Spider-Man?
It’s best to be skeptical of anything Garfield says about Marvel. We’ve seen this happen before with the young actor – he previously insisted he wasn’t in Spider-Man: No Way Home before the movie came out, so take his statements with a huge dose of doubt.
He strongly denied it at first. But then, he stepped through a portal and appeared alongside Holland and Tobey Maguire, who many fans consider the original Spider-Man for Marvel (even though the character originated with Sony).
It remains to be seen if he’s telling the truth now, but if you’re hoping for a third movie in The Amazing Spider-Man series, don’t get your hopes up. However, you can still enjoy Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man on Disney+ starting March 1st, after it leaves Netflix.
