Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix details feeling ’emotional and exhausted’ following her Olympics bronze medal win – after dad Fred praised her for sharing her mental health struggle

As a lifestyle enthusiast and follower of the Olympic Games, let me share an update from the diving arena. Last week, I was thrilled to witness a 19-year-old diver secure a bronze medal in the 10m synchronized dive. However, during Tuesday’s individual event for the second Olympics in a row, our young athlete placed sixth. Despite this, their spirit remains unbroken, and I eagerly look forward to seeing what they will achieve next.
After disclosing that she contemplated suicide three years prior, she subsequently delivered a heartfelt speech. Notably, her First Dates co-star and father, Fred Sirieix, commended his daughter for her courage.
On the show Lorraine that aired on Monday, Andrea shared her emotions during her Olympic journey, showing a clip where she was visibly emotional upon receiving her third-place medal.
In conversation with temporary host Ranvir Singh, clad in her bronze medal, Andrea expressed, “I was incredibly emotional and drained, it’s been quite a journey for three long years. I feel like I was simply on cloud nine.”
The athlete expressed gratitude towards her family for their sacrifices throughout her career, saying: ‘What truly touched my heart was witnessing my family. I’m deeply fond of my family, they’ve done it all. My mother and brother have given up a lot for me, and so has my father.’
At every meeting, their presence was constant. It was significant to have them present during the Olympics, especially since they weren’t able to attend in Tokyo due to the COVID-19 situation. Witnessing your progress, the transformation you’ve undergone, and seeing how genuinely content you are, has been truly remarkable.
In the wake of courageously discussing her mental health issues a week ago, Andrea has shared that she has been growing increasingly fearless throughout her life.
As I grow older and wiser, I find myself increasingly unafraid. I’ve come to understand that there’s typically little to fear. Truly, I feel incredibly fortunate.
She added in the chat that she believed her bravery comes from her parents.
Following Fred’s heartfelt Instagram post where he praised his daughter for openly discussing her struggles with mental health, it was shared subsequently.
Previously, the diving pro from Team GB openly shared that after her first appearance at the Tokyo 2021 games, she faced significant anxiety struggles, which almost led her to abandon the sport.
As I reflect on my own experiences, I can’t help but empathize with a young diver who recently faced disappointment. Yet, amidst the tears and frustration, there’s a beacon of hope and pride in the form of a heartfelt Instagram post from her father, Fred. In this moment, it’s clear that his love and admiration for her shine brighter than ever.
In the post, he uploaded a video of his daughter diving first, followed by a photo of them embracing afterward, both of them grinning at the camera.
On Instagram, the host of First Dates posted an exclusive backstage photo of Andrea posing for cameras after her dive, with a friendly arm around her, along with some personal shots featuring him and his two kids strolling around beautiful Paris.
In a nostalgic post, the famous host shared a picture from the past, featuring himself carrying Andrea as a child while both were enjoying a pile of cotton candy.
In a heartfelt message, the elated dad labeled his post: ‘Thanks for this amazing journey, Andrea, and the motivation you’ve provided. What a splendid instant! You and your sibling are the most wonderful achievements I’ve ever made or will make ❤️ #lifeisbeautiful’
Andrea commented underneath the heartfelt tribute to her simply with: ‘I love you’.

On a tearful Tuesday, the Olympic diver openly shared her struggles with mental health in 2021, expressing nothing but gratitude for still being part of the competition.
Three years past, I had no desire to live at all; now, merely being alive brings me joy. I’m grateful for every breath I take and for having my loved ones standing by me. This is expressed by the young athlete from Team GB.
Following Tokyo, I experienced some truly terrifying moments. As a result, each new day that greets me with opened eyes and a breath filling my lungs feels incredibly precious.
For years, I have woken up each day feeling grateful to greet another sunrise. This simple act of rising from slumber has become a beacon of hope and a reminder of my resilience in the face of life’s challenges. The first thought that crosses my mind is not about the tasks ahead or the worries lingering from the previous day, but rather a deep sense of contentment at being alive to experience another day. It’s this consistent feeling of happiness upon waking that has become an integral part of my identity and a testament to the power of gratitude in shaping one’s perspective on life.
Following her event, Andrea was consoled by her father and her mother Alessandra in the stands.
Before the cameras, Fred consoled his daughter, saying, “Remember, it’s all part of sports. Sometimes you triumph, and other times you fall short. Yesterday, you truly excelled.”
Andrea acknowledged her parents with a tribute and shared with reporters that she felt fortunate to have them by the poolside, cheering her on.
At that point, I was incredibly attached to my family, which is why their presence here holds immense significance. They witnessed me at my most vulnerable times, and now they get to see me competing in the Olympics.
‘That’s all I really wanted.’
Initially, Andrea aspired to earn another medal for her individual competition since she was recognized as the world’s bronze medalist earlier. However, her hopes were dashed following a disappointing second dive, allowing China’s Hongchan Quan to maintain her championship title.
Andrea said, “Receiving no medal today doesn’t diminish the medal I earned or the accomplishments I made over the past three years since Tokyo.”
“Diving has provided me with something truly precious – personal growth as a person, beyond just athletic development. This aspect of my journey has been invaluable.”
Today, Fred, a star on First Dates, expressed his sense of pride towards his daughter following a heartfelt moment they shared at the stadium. He and his partner Alessandra were seen comforting their child when she was upset.
He mentioned that he adores his daughter for her optimism. Although she didn’t manage to reach the podium today, tonight (Tuesday) will be a peaceful evening for her. Tomorrow (Wednesday), she’ll be back to being cheerful, radiant Andrea. She simply loves living life, appreciating Paris, and cherishing the present moment.
I’ve been truly inspired by Andrea lately. Her journey towards finding balance in her life is a testament to her resilience and self-awareness. She has embraced who she is and is making the most out of every moment, which makes me incredibly happy for her. Her story serves as a reminder that we all have the power to shape our lives and make them beautiful by finding equilibrium in our personal growth and experiences.
