Andra Day stuns in unique see-through gown alongside glamorous co-stars Mo’Nique and Glenn Close at The Deliverance premiere in LA
As a seasoned film critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the cast and crew of “The Deliverance” certainly know how to put together an impressive lineup. With the likes of Mo’Nique, Andra Day, and Lee Daniels at the helm, this project promises to be nothing short of a cinematic tour de force.
At the Los Angeles premiere of their horror movie “The Deliverance” on a Wednesday, Andra Day was accompanied by her stylish fellow actors Mo’Nique and Glenn Close.
At the Netflix Tudum Theatre event, the actress who portrays Billie Holiday in “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” dazzled everyone in a vibrant, translucent dress adorned with an extraordinary design. She was 39 years old and her performance was flawless.
The dress had a lengthy train that matched, and she teamed it up with a set of knee-high boots bearing the same pattern.
As I stood there, my heart pounding with excitement, I couldn’t help but admire the radiant Mo’Nique, 56, who graced the event with her captivating presence. She was a vision in an off-the-shoulder black velvet gown adorned with sparkling silver trim, exuding elegance that left everyone in awe.
77-year-old Glenn, the star of Fatal Attraction, astonished in a stylish gold structured coat paired with a white button-up and black trousers, despite admitting she was unsure how to portray a ‘white woman living within the black community’ in the movie.
Earlier this week, while discussing the movie, Glenn admitted she was unsure about portraying a white character in a predominantly black community.
Under the direction of Lee Daniels, the chilling horror production streaming on Netflix features Glenn, Andra, and Mo’Nique. Their characters are entangled in a narrative about a family confronting a malevolent spirit in a cursed abode.
As a devoted admirer of this captivating actress, I’d like to share an intriguing detail about one of her roles: She portrays Alberta, a character who shares a beautiful bond with Andra, her on-screen daughter, who is black. Interestingly, the narrative of Alberta’s life has always been intertwined with black men, as mentioned by Glenn.
She mentioned that when Lee said there are white women like this in every black community, I found it interesting and felt compelled to give her a fair representation.
Lee stated, “Every black individual is familiar with a woman such as this among white people, yet the reverse isn’t always true,” according to Glenn’s recollection shared with People.
She shared that she was thrilled to take on the role, as it allowed her to break a personal rule: never repeating herself. She accepted the challenge for her own satisfaction, as avoiding repetition keeps things interesting and prevents boredom.
The story revolves around the character of Ebony, an alcoholic woman named Andra, who gradually becomes terrified that her children might be experiencing possession.
In a playful yet deeply religious manner, Alberta, her mother, often flirts with the nurses during her chemotherapy sessions. This habit has led her to adopt a series of eye-catching and elaborate wigs as part of her style.
Simultaneously, Monique portrays Cynthia, the social worker managing Ebony’s case with the authority to place her children in foster care.
The movie marks a stunning turnaround for Mo’Nique, who carried on an explosive public feud with Lee for over a decade before they reconciled.
Glenn portrayed herself as someone who had experienced abuse and subsequently, she believes, has turned into an abuser. However, she’s encountered God in a profound manner and is praying that her daughter can overcome her challenges too.
1. “Andra heaped praises on Glenn, exclaiming enthusiastically: ‘She truly brought this character to life, and it’s simply incredible; she’s a legend who consistently performs at the top tier for an extended period.'”
In my experience as a lifestyle enthusiast, I can tell you that Glenn and I forged a deeper bond off-screen, much like the characters we portrayed whose dynamics were far from harmonious.
For the sequences where intense emotions like rage and sorrow dominate, we managed to execute the necessary elements. However, it was crucial for us to infuse those scenes with genuine affection, which we certainly possess in abundance.
In the movie, Andra described the relationship between the characters as a deep, underlying tension stemming from a profound love they share. However, their lives have been challenging.
Throughout the span of her illustrious acting journey, Glenn has received nominations for eight Academy Awards, yet remains without a win – a distinction shared only with Peter O’Toole.
In the 2021 movie “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” directed by Lee Daniels, Andra was recognized with an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. However, Frances McDormand ended up winning the award for her role in “Nomadland.”
Amongst the cast of The Deliverance, Mo’Nique stands alone as the only Oscar winner. She received her award in 2010, winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Lee Daniels’ critically acclaimed drama Precious, which marked the beginning of their tumultuous disagreement.
On the premiere of Wednesdays, director Lee, aged 64, turned heads with his stylish attire – a translucent brown button-up, black trousers, and white boots. Photos captured him socializing with Mo’Nique and Glenn on the red carpet.
Meanwhile Dominique Toney looked chic wearing a bright set with a palm leaf pattern.
Jess Adams, 33, opted for a gothic look in a flowing black dress and chunky platform heels.
Kasia Szarek rocked a frilly mini dress and bright pink hair.
Zechariah Eubanks showed off his casual cool style in a denim shirt, black jeans, and a hat.
Ellis Hobbs IV sported a white short-sleeve button up and black pants.
Anthony B. Jenkins suited up in a red look with a black shirt and tie.
Demi Singleton, 17, wowed in a red silk dress.
41-year-old Miss Lawrence donned a luxurious coat paired with a cheetah patterned attire, and accessorized it with a chic black beret.
Producers David Coggeshall, 48, and Tucker Tooley, 56, looked dashing in suits.
The Deliverance is set to be released on August 30, 2024.
