Andor’s Death Star Secret REVEALED! You Won’t Believe What Happens!
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Andor season 2, episodes 10-12.
In the concluding episodes of Andor season 2, the plot is neatly concluded, linking the story to Rogue One by resolving lingering questions about the Rebel Alliance and the Death Star. The structure of time in this season has been distinctively different, as the show advances a year after every three episodes. Consequently, the last three episodes unfold close to the events portrayed in Rogue One, and a year following the Ghorman Massacre and its subsequent turmoil depicted in Andor season 2, episodes 7-9.
In the immediate vicinity of “Rogue One”, the last three episodes of “Andor” season 2 resolved any lingering plot points while introducing new ones that align directly with the storyline of the former. Characters like Luthen, Kleya, and Dedra from “Andor” season 2, who don’t appear in “Rogue One”, had their fates revealed, as did those who will feature in the 2016 film. These final episodes offer clarification and seamlessly transition into the next timeline of the “Star Wars” saga. Notably, the ending of “Andor” season 2 offers a significant revelation about the Death Star.
We Finally Know How The Rebels First Learned About The Death Star
A Lingering Mystery Is Finally Solved
It has long been a mystery as to how the Rebel Alliance initially discovered about the Death Star. However, it was hinted at in ‘Rogue One’, even though its construction was meant to be kept secret. In ‘Rogue One’, when Cassian first meets an informant named Tivik, he reveals that he’s already heard of Galen Erso and his connection to a clandestine Imperial weapon. It wasn’t until episodes 10-12 of ‘Andor’ season 2 that we uncover how the Rebels became aware of the Death Star’s existence.
In the closing segment of the first episode in the final storyline of season 2 for the series Andor, Luthen Rael is depicted having a meeting with his long-standing Imperial ally, Lonni Jung. Lonni appears extremely anxious due to her examination of Dedra Meero’s records and discovering that the Death Star is being constructed. Upon investigating, Lonni uncovers that mining operations on Jedha (as depicted in episode 8 of Andor, the Ghorman Massacre), along with other projects described as energy initiatives, are actually connected to the creation of a massive weapon, overseen by Galen Erso and based on the planet of Scarif.
Lonni unwisely tells Luthen, who regards him as too risky and eliminates him. Luthen later shares this news with Kleya but gets caught by Dedra Meero. During some subsequent events, Kleya mournfully ends Luthen’s life to conceal his secrets from the Empire. Cassian subsequently rescues her and learns about the weapon himself, eventually sharing it with Rebel leadership. This background information helps us understand how the Rebel Alliance discovered the Death Star in the first place, as Cassian’s initial scene in Rogue One—where he picks up Galen Erso’s name from Kleya—now becomes much clearer, since he heard it from her.
“I Have Friends Everywhere” Becomes The Ultimate Irony Of Luthen’s Life
Luthen Pushes All Of His Friends Away
Luthen’s famous saying, “I have friends everywhere“, takes on a different meaning in the final episodes of Andor season 2. Instead, it seems that Luthen has managed to damage his relationships significantly, rather than expand his network of allies. His decision to remain on Coruscant and not join the other rebels further strained his already fragile bonds with Bail and Draven.
I, a devoted follower of the cause, went as far as destroying bridges and straining relationships in my pursuit. The loss of connections became an ironic twist and almost brought about the downfall of the galaxy. Yet, it was I who discovered the Death Star before anyone else outside the ISB. Had it not been for Cassian and Kleya, my unyielding devotion to the Rebellion might have led to its collapse before we ultimately triumphed over the Empire.
Bail Organa Gets A Powerful Tribute
The Senator From Alderaan Gets A Fitting Final Line
The introduction of Bail Organa in “Andor” sparked some surprise, as Benjamin Bratt portrayed him instead of the customary Jimmy Smits. However, audiences eventually warmed up to Bratt’s casting following the revelation that Smits was unavailable. Additionally, Bratt delivered a remarkable performance that further won over viewers. In the storyline of “Andor”, we see Bail Organa before his unfortunate demise on Alderaan, which was brought about by the Death Star.
It’s fortunate that before Bail passes away, he receives a moving tribute through his last words in the finale of Andor. In these words, Bail expresses his desire to fight the Empire with all his might, going down swinging if necessary. Interestingly, this is precisely how Bail’s story unfolds. He meets his end along with his people as Alderaan is destroyed. Yet, his legacy lives on through Princess Leia, who carries on the fight in his name and plays a crucial role in the eventual downfall of the Empire, keeping his spirit alive and swinging.
Dedra Meero Pays The Price For Her Curiosity
Dedra’s Scavenging Cost Her Everything
In the conclusion of Andor season 2, one of the characters, Dedra Meero, finds a resolution in her storyline. Following the events on Ghorman, Dedra becomes fixated once again on locating Axis, also known as Luthen. Despite eventually finding him, she is apprehended due to working unauthorized on the Axis case file. This results in an intriguing interrogation by Director Orson Krennic, who steps into the role of questioner.
In the course of Krennic’s questioning, it is revealed that Dedra Meero possessed Death Star documents, which ties into Lonni’s findings. Suspecting Dedra as a potential spy for the Rebels, this suspicion ultimately led to Lonni, then Luthen and Kleya, uncovering the truth about the Death Star. However, Dedra firmly denies these allegations, claiming she was merely gathering files to find leads on Axis. She swears she had no knowledge that Lonni held the clearance needed to access her files. Yet, despite her claims of innocence, Dedra’s negligence lands her in a Narkina jail cell, providing an appropriately dramatic conclusion to her tale.
Mon Mothma’s Family Must Live With Her Decisions
The Rebellion Is Costing Many Others
As a film enthusiast, I found it intriguing that even though Mon Mothma’s dramatic departure from Coruscant and the Senate in episodes 7-9 of Andor season 2 was quite impactful, the subsequent episodes didn’t delve too deeply into the repercussions of her decision. The only hint we get is a brief scene in the final montage, where we see Perrin, Mon’s ex-husband, drowning his sorrows in a cab with a passed-out woman beside him. His disheveled appearance and despondent demeanor suggest that Mon’s choice to join the Rebellion has had a profound effect on her family, leaving them to cope in their own ways.
Cassian Andor Has A Heartbreaking New Legacy Even After Rogue One
Allowing His Memory To Live On
To wrap up our discussion about the ending of Andor season 2, let’s talk about the final scene. Following hints from Rogue One, Andor fades to black and then reveals the wheat fields of Mina-Rau. B2EMO is seen playing with another droid, while Bix, carrying a baby in her arms, strides out into the fields. The exact timing of this scene isn’t specified in Andor season 2, episode 12, and it’s dialogue-free, but the message is clear: Bix was pregnant when she parted ways with Cassian, ensuring that his legacy persists even after his death during Rogue One.
This scene is deeply moving, more so following the heart-wrenching sequence in episode 9 of Andor‘s second season where Bix tells Cassian that once the war concludes, she will search for him. Sadly, Cassian remains unaware that Bix and her child were awaiting his return. As viewers, we bear this knowledge, making Rogue One even more poignant. However, there’s a hint of bittersweetness in the revelation. Although Cassian’s story continues beyond Andor, Bix’s journey also persists – a theory many had speculated would not be the case. This closing moment offers a fitting conclusion for Bix’s character, marking an end to one journey and the start of another.
