Andor: What I’d like to see more and less of in Season 2

Andor: What I'd like to see more and less of in Season 2

As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast who’s been on this journey since the original trilogy graced our screens, I must say that Andor has truly captured my heart and imagination. However, while it’s undeniably a fantastic addition to the saga, there are areas where it could improve or expand in its upcoming second season.

Andor, undoubtedly one of the standout elements from the Star Wars universe, isn’t without its flaws. Despite receiving widespread acclaim, there are some elements that don’t resonate strongly with me, and I think certain other aspects could benefit from more attention in Season 2.

Let’s take a look at what we need more of and less of in Andor Season 2.

1. We need more Cassian Andor

Not everyone who liked Andor is a fan of Cassian Andor. Just go through Lucasfilm’s announcement of Andor, and the comments are full of fans complaining and asking why a “boring guy” like Cassian needs his series. I saw those, and I haven’t forgotten them because they bothered me. I love Diego Luna and Cassian Andor. Above all, I watched Andor for him and hope he has more screen time than all other characters combined in Season 2. I think Cassian is compelling, and I’m looking forward to seeing his growth into Captain Cassian Andor of the Rebel Alliance.

2. We need less of Syril eating cereal

While some viewers enjoyed them, I personally found the frequent scenes involving Syril and his mother repetitive and dull. I plan to skip any scenes of him eating cereal during Season 2 since they seem excessively unnecessary to me. Occasionally, these scenes might add charm, but consistently featuring them seems redundant, particularly considering the numerous other crucial characters in the Rebellion era who could benefit from the screen time currently dedicated to Syril’s breakfast.

3. We need more aliens

In Andor, a series that left fans amazed, criticisms concerning the scarcity of alien characters have seemingly been set aside. However, I personally feel that this is one area needing improvement in Season 2. I eagerly anticipate seeing more alien characters with significant roles, as the Rebellion was a galactic movement, not solely a human affair! It’s important to remember that aliens also detest oppression just like humans do.

4. We need less of Syril being a creep towards Deedra

Hey there! As a gamer speaking up, let me just say that I ain’t here for the romantic subplot between Syril and Deedra in Season 2. They both got some quirks, but Syril’s been acting a bit too clingy and strange lately. It feels like the storyline should focus on more pressing matters, like the Death Star. I sure hope Tony Gilroy doesn’t overdo it with the creepiness, but considering how last season ended, I’m worried we might see a lot more of Syril, Deedra, and their Imperial “love story.

5. We need more conversations between Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera

Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera are played by Stellan Skarsgård and Forest Whitaker, who are arguably two of the best actors in the world right now. Season 1 featured a scene between Luthen and Saw that seemed like something from an Oscar-winning film. This duo and their opposing ideologies should get a lot more focus in Season 2. I want to see what becomes of the idealistic Luthen and radical Saw in Season 2 and if they ever find common ground as the Rebellion scrambles to come together.

6. We need less of Mon Mothma’s husband

I think I’ve had enough of that guy! Mon Mothma’s husband is a bit of a jerk, and the poor woman seems surrounded by lesser beings. It’s hard to secretly fund a galaxy-wide Rebellion while being married to the shallow, one-dimensional Perrin Fertha. While I’m curious to see what becomes of him, Mon Mothma’s marriage, and her daughter, I still hope we don’t see too much of Perrin in Season 2.

7. We need more Brasso

Brasso, a friend like no other, was arguably one of Cassian’s most valued acquaintances prior to joining the Rebellion. He’s the kind of man you’d want on your side in any situation. However, I have concerns about what lies ahead for him. At the close of Season 1, Brasso and Bix Caleen managed to flee Ferrix together. As for his future, it remains a mystery. Let me share more about this loyal giant and his unwavering devotion towards Cassian.

8. We need more Rogue One parallels

Intriguingly, the first season of Andor shares numerous similarities with the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Specifically, there are striking parallels between Cassian from Andor and Jyn from Rogue One. As a devoted admirer of both the movie and their dynamic duo, I’m eager to discover more connections that strengthen the bond between these characters and foreshadow their shared fate – ultimately leading us back to Scarif.

9. We need more B2EMO

Among the Star Wars-like aspects of Andor, what stands out most is the affectionate droid, B2EMO, who’s faithful, kind, and emotionally perceptive. After Maarva passed away, leaving B2 heartbroken, Brasso chose to stay with him for comfort. There’s much speculation about B2’s future, with some fans suggesting he might transform into K-2SO, Cassian’s partner in Rogue One. I eagerly anticipate seeing more of B2EMO and hope he gets reunited with Cassian someday.

10. We need more cameos

In essence, “Andor” isn’t crafted merely to appease Star Wars fans, as creator Tony Gilroy follows his unique vision. Remarkably, even a cameo from any figure of this contemporary Star Wars era won’t be perceived as fan service by the audience. I’m secretly hoping for brief appearances of Jyn Erso, despite it seeming implausible within the canon. She’s one of my cherished Star Wars characters, and her return, however temporary, feels like a delightful treat.
