Andor, the best Star Wars show, returns for its final season in April

As a lifelong Star Wars fan who has been following the saga since the original trilogy, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia when Disney announced the release date for the second season of Andor. The first season was such a refreshing take on the Star Wars universe, focusing on the struggles of ordinary people fighting against the Empire, and it completely changed my perspective on what a Star Wars show could be.

Disney has announced that the second and final season of “Star Wars: Andor” will premiere on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, bringing excitement to fans everywhere. We’ll continue to follow the journey of Cassian Andor, a budding rebel freedom fighter played by Diego Luna. This news comes directly from the official “Star Wars” website.

Over the past few years, Disney has produced numerous spinoff series based on the Star Wars saga. One of these, Andor, serves as a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One, focusing on attempts to obtain plans for the Death Star. If you had told me then that a prequel centered around a character other than the main one would turn out to be the best of those spinoffs, I wouldn’t have believed it. However, the first season of Andor has dramatically expanded the Star Wars universe in unprecedented ways, steering clear of lightsaber-wielding Jedi to instead explore the struggles of ordinary people resisting the Empire and the power-hungry bureaucrats maintaining it.

The outcome was a production that long-time Star Wars enthusiasts had been anticipating: a complex series tailored for mature audiences. While the maturity or adult nature of the show may not be inherently praiseworthy – as Star Wars initially began as a straightforward good versus evil narrative and continues to thrive with this concept – its execution in this instance was exceptional, and I’m eagerly awaiting season 2.

In the second installment of Andor, we’ll be treated to 12 captivating episodes, grouped into four sets of three. Each set will unfold a narrative spanning a few days, as Cassian Andor evolves further into the unyielding rebel we came to know in Rogue One. The entire season is set across four years, but Disney hasn’t yet specified how they’ll distribute these episodes. In the first season, they debuted the initial three episodes simultaneously and then released one per week until completion.

Captain America fights the president in trailer for Captain America: Brave New World

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel exhilarated today! Right at a D23 event in Brazil, Disney has dropped a fresh trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World,” where Anthony Mackie takes up the shield as the elevated Captain America, sporting wings this time around. Check it out below:

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sam Wilson, portrayed by Mackie, assumed the title of Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.” Over the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” he developed into his own unique Captain America. Currently, he’s fully embraced the role. The antagonist in this storyline is Thaddeus Ross, who was previously played by William Hurt but is now portrayed by Harrison Ford following Hurt’s passing in 2022. In an unexpected twist, Ross has become the president and reportedly possesses the ability to transform into a Red Hulk. The political landscape is certainly intriguing.

Anyway, Captain America: Brave New World drops into theaters on Febuary 14, 2025. Happy Valentines. While they were at it, Disney also dropped a new trailer for Thunderbolts, about a bunch of antiheroes from past Marvel movies who team up for one daring mission. Take a look:

In simpler terms, our group will soon be on par with Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, Ghost, John Walker posing as Captain America, and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (who’s not exactly like Nick Fury), along with a new enigmatic character named Bob, played by Lewis Pullman.

Thunderbolts comes out on May 2, 2025.
