Andor S2 Actor Reveals Excitement Over Replacing Rogue One Star
Fans of the Star Wars franchise were taken aback when it was revealed that a significant character, Bail Organa, was being recast for Season 2 of the Disney+ series. Originally played by Jimmy Smits in the prequel movies, the role is now being taken up by alum Benjamin Bratt.
In his initial appearance in the “Star Wars” universe, Bratt expressed his enthusiasm for portraying the iconic, heroic rebel character within Andor. He remarked that the writing of the show is concise yet intricate, effectively capturing the essence and truth of each scene on paper. The series was developed by Tony Gilroy.
Bratt: Andor is “The Essence of Good Storytelling”
In a recent turn of events, Andor has commenced its eagerly awaited second season on Disney+. To elaborate, Bratt commented that while viewers are aware of the inevitable tragic ending, the narrative continues to instill hope in the characters. As he put it, “Even though we know that misfortune lies ahead for our protagonists, it manages to keep you optimistic.” He further stated that the series serves as a reminder, almost every episode, that the human spirit is indomitable, which is the heart of compelling storytelling.
As a passionate cinephile, I’d put it this way: “For countless generations, tales have kept us alive… If the human narrative on screen doesn’t stir your emotions, then maybe we need to reconsider our storytelling.
Bratt on Organa’s Arc
The actor who played Miss Congeniality shared his enthusiasm for Season 2 of Andor, as it delves deeper into the transformation of Bail Organa from a senator to a pivotal figure in the rebellion. “He’s revealed as a shrewd tactician capable of generating the necessary intensity,” Bratt expressed. “That aspect of the character intrigued me and led me to take on the role,” he further stated.

Andor Showrunner on Why Smits Did not Reprise the Role of Organa
Previously in an interview, Gilroy discussed the issue and it wasn’t a personal matter. He explained that “our schedules simply didn’t align. We put in a great deal of effort, but he was unavailable and couldn’t attend.” Gilroy also mentioned that reintroducing established characters such as Mon Mothma or Saw Gerrera can be challenging. “Reintroducing legacy characters is quite complex,” Gilroy said. “It’s costly, it’s about who’s working when, and a lot of work went into it, but unfortunately we couldn’t coordinate our schedules.
Bratt went on to say that he recognized the challenge of stepping into the role of Bail Organa in Andor, explaining, “I’ve long admired Jimmy as a gifted actor. He embodies sophistication, a genuine charm, a sense of goodness, and sincerity – qualities that this character demands.
Season 2 of Andor is streaming on Disney+. The next new installment premieres on May 6.
