The finale of Andor is both satisfying and sad, mainly for two reasons. We see Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, leave Yavin IV with K-2SO to pursue a lead on Kafrene, setting him on the course that ultimately leads to his death in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. And the final scenes return to Mina-Rau with Bix Calleen (Adria Arjona), Cassian’s former love, who is holding a baby strongly suggested to be their son. A popular fan theory surrounds this moment, and the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, has now discussed it.
With the current TV season coming to a close, Total Film spoke with Tony Gilroy, who also helped write the movie Rogue One, about the upcoming second and final season of Andor. They asked him about a popular fan theory: that in the last scene of Season 2, the character Bix somehow realizes Cassian has died on Scarif. Here’s what the show’s creator had to say about that idea.
I always try to be respectful of other people’s journeys, and I definitely didn’t mean to step on anyone’s toes. Honestly, I have no idea how word gets around, but I figured eventually, she’d hear about what happened. It just wasn’t something I wanted to cause.
At the end of the episode “Welcome to the Rebellion,” set a year before the season finale, Bix and Cassian parted ways. She believed Cassian’s dedication to the Rebellion was more important than starting a new life together, and promised to find him once the Empire fell. Unfortunately, she never got the chance. Though the creator, Tony Gilroy, considered having Bix eventually learn of Cassian’s death, he didn’t want to imply she somehow knew he died on Scarif in that moment.

Disney+ is offering plans to stream shows like Andor and all things Star Wars. You can start watching with ads for as little as $11.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $18.99 a month, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. Check out the deal here!
It’s not surprising that Andor didn’t focus much on the Force, with the healing scene in “Messenger” – where the healer sensed something special in Cassian – being the only real instance that comes to mind. However, the creator, Gilroy, didn’t rule out that Bix might have had a feeling something was happening, though it’s also possible she simply stood in that same spot on Mina-Rau every day. He explained it like this:
I can’t understand how she figured out he was gone. Perhaps she’s just sensing it, or maybe her nightly visits and conversations are some kind of way of processing her grief. I really didn’t want her to find out.
Cassian Andor played a vital role in obtaining the Death Star plans from Scarif, which ultimately allowed Luke Skywalker to destroy it in A New Hope, making him a Rebel hero. Because the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, didn’t intend for Bix Calleen to find out about his death immediately, it’s inevitable she will learn the news. Personally, I’m relieved we didn’t see that scene in Andor. It would have been devastating to watch Bix realize she’d never see Cassian again, and that their child would grow up without a father.
Even though the show Andor has finished, there’s still a lot to look forward to in the Star Wars universe. Coming up next is a movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. Season 2 of Ahsoka is also expected to arrive on Disney+ sometime next year, and the original A New Hope movie will be back in theaters in February 2027.
