After the huge success of Andor Season 2, its creator, Tony Gilroy, talked about the possibility of a third season and if he might work on future Star Wars projects. He also shared his thoughts on making the show, how audiences reacted to it, and potential storylines for additional seasons.
Tony Gilroy on what story he would have explored if Andor had more seasons
Gilroy explained that ‘Andor’ was planned from the start to have just two seasons. He added that even if the show continued beyond that – a potential Season 3, for example – the core story wouldn’t have been altered. ‘I wouldn’t change the story at all,’ he said to GamesRadar+.
Gilroy explained that the show could have lasted longer under different conditions. He said if they’d started with season one and both he and Diego were younger, with plenty of time and funding from Disney, they could have easily planned for four seasons. He clarified that building a framework for a four-season arc would have been achievable in that scenario.
Despite the challenges, he emphasized that the fast-paced storytelling in Season 2 actually sparked a lot of creativity. He explained, “It’s hard to describe to non-writers how thrilling it is to work with that kind of structure, where you have room to explore and improvise—it’s incredibly exciting.”
Tony Gilroy on whether he will return to Star Wars franchise
Tony Gilroy isn’t sure if he’ll work on another Star Wars project. He explained that his decision now depends more on how much time a project would take, rather than the financial aspects or opportunities. He said, ‘I honestly don’t know. I’m not at the beginning of my career anymore, so time is a big factor – what I can take on and how long it will take.’
Honestly, I was really impressed by what Gilroy said about potentially returning to Star Wars. He made it clear that money isn’t a motivator for him – he’s at a point where a huge paycheck wouldn’t even make a difference! What surprised me most, though, was that he admitted he’d be more excited about filming in London again than actually working on another Star Wars movie. He even said London is ‘the bigger draw than Star Wars,’ which is wild to think about!
Currently, it doesn’t appear that Tony Gilroy plans to create a third season of Andor, though he’s potentially willing to work on future Star Wars projects.
