Filming for “Avengers: Doomsday” started in March 2025, but Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, revealed he visited London a few weeks into its production. It was later confirmed that Mackie would reprise his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his solo debut during the announcement of the main cast for “Avengers: Doomsday”. In the same video, it was also announced that several actors from the 2000s X-Men franchise would return.

On Instagram, Mackie posted a picture of himself boarding a plane to London with the caption “Here we go!” The actor was wearing a shirt featuring characters from Powerpuff Girls like Mojo Jojo and HIM. Although he didn’t reveal any specifics about the movie, a bloody filter on the selfie might suggest an intense, action-oriented style. Interestingly, this suggests that Mackie has just begun filming his role in Avengers: Endgame.

Captain America Is Just Beginning To Film His Scenes

Earlier reports suggest that actors like James Marsden, Benedict Wong, Ian McKellen, and more recently Alan Cumming, have been filming. This implies that initial filming for Avengers and X-Men scenes might be done separately. It aligns with speculation that the X-Men will first appear in their own distinct universe, but specific details are still uncertain. Interestingly, Anthony Mackie has expressed his desire to collaborate with the X-Men team.

I’m quite fond of Cyclops, my preferred X-Men character. For years, I’ve carried an action figure of him on my keychain. Back in high school, the X-Men cartoon was incredibly popular, even before the movies. My admiration for Cyclops has been longstanding, and I can hardly contain my excitement – fingers crossed – about his potential involvement. I look forward to socializing with Xavier, Beast, and the rest of the gang. However, if given the chance to spend time with one character, it would be Nightcrawler. My dream scenario? Two weeks in New Orleans’ French Quarter during Mardi Gras with Nightcrawler.

Even though their shooting timetables vary, it is possible for Avengers: Doomsday to pair Mackie as Captain America with Cumming’s Nightcrawler and Marsden’s Cyclops. The fact that Mackie joins the set later does not necessarily imply that they won’t be in any shared scenes together.

Captain America Will Be The Leader Of The Avengers

In conclusion of “Captain America: Brave New World,” Sam is set to assume a leadership position in restructuring the Avengers, paving the way for a significant role in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Given that he’s gathering a team consisting of heroes, anti-heroes, and even villains who will confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, he is primed to encounter various characters from different universes.

Unfortunately, even though Mackie is sporting the Powerpuff Girls outfit, it seems highly unlikely that Captain America will be joining forces with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup in Avengers: Doomsday. Jokingly speaking, of course. However, Mackie’s confirmation about being on set only serves to heighten anticipation and speculation regarding what awaits Sam next in the Marvel Universe.
