There are pros and cons to everything in life.
Instead, when discussing fame, it might be challenging not to focus on the apparent wealth, glamorous events, adoring crowds, and luxurious residences in places like Beverly Hills and beyond.
While there’s no denying that being a celebrity comes with its perks, it also has significant drawbacks. Many celebrities will attest to the fact that the glamour of the red carpet isn’t constant, the cheers of fans can become monotonous, and the camera, which can be your ally, can just as easily become your adversary.
Even the most recognized celebrities sometimes need a break, a brief spell of relaxation far from the dazzling flashes of camera lenses, the intense brightness of stage lighting, and the constant pressure to maintain an impeccable appearance.
It’s understandable that they might feel upset when their brief moments of tranquility are disrupted by unsolicited photographs, especially if these images turn out to be surprising, unattractive, and, even more so, publicly visible online.
Everyone from Ben Affleck to Beyoncé has found themselves in a tricky situation where they could end up as the subject of a popular internet joke.
But who else has been affected?
KIM KARDASHIAN
On occasions, wealth and celebrity can turn out to be quite an unwanted predicament – take for instance Kim Kardashian, who felt embarrassed when supposedly unattractive images of herself were released publicly in 2017.
Instead, the tranquil beach vacation along the Mexican coast transformed into a nightmare for the mother of four when she voiced her astonishment upon seeing certain images.
In a sleek black two-piece swimsuit, the image-focused Kardashian, aged 44 and famously among the world’s most frequently snapped individuals, was captured lounging by the poolside.
However, the woman famed for ‘shattering the web’ expressed dissatisfaction upon seeing the subsequent photos that surfaced.
Oh my goodness! I just don’t understand. This isn’t even close to how I look!
‘I need to untag myself in everything. I’m literally going to go inside and just start untagging.’
ARIANA GRANDE
Previously under fire for perceived cultural appropriation through her music and visuals, Ariana Grande ignited another round of discussions in 2021 when she posted a set of promotional pictures on various social media platforms.
In an ideal scenario, there wouldn’t be any issues at hand, but given that our reality often deviates from perfection, challenges do arise.
Critics, seemingly unimpressed, didn’t hesitate to claim that the singer was engaging in cultural appropriation by adopting an Asian style or appearance, a practice often referred to as “Asian borrowing.
The image unexpectedly caught traction, and Ariana Grande’s typically innocuous photographs garnered unwanted attention due to fans noticing her exceptionally straight eyebrows, thin-winged eyeliner, lack of upper lid makeup, and conspicuously lighter skin tone in the photos.
Despite assuming a modest, innocent stance during the photo shoot, the American actress faced criticism, as social media users accused her of perpetuating stereotypes and exploiting Asian culture.
After that, her Instagram images were quickly taken down, however, for Ariana Grande, once something is on the internet, it’s impossible to erase it completely.
BEN AFFLECK
If ever there was a reluctant celebrity, it would be Ben Affleck.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can’t help but acknowledge the internet’s affection for this Academy Award-winning icon. Time and again, he’s found himself transformed into a meme – a testament to his enduring influence, one might say. And honestly, it’s hard not to see why.
Seven years later, Affleck had to address the viral fame he garnered from his serious-looking appearance at the 2023 Grammy Awards alongside his wife, Jennifer Lopez.
In that instance, lightning struck again, but the actor wasn’t experiencing their first round on the internet meme circuit.
Back in 2016, I happened to capture an unguarded moment of a famous actor, taking a smoking pause amidst his stroll around Los Angeles with his daughter, Violet. He seemed a bit downcast, reflecting the human side we all share.
Clad casually in a simple blue sweater and jeans, the worn-out Affleck stood, occasionally pondering with a closed eye, while idling away his solitude, one hand tucked into a front pocket.
Unluckily for him, the image, often referred to as ‘sad Ben Affleck’, spread virally across the internet before the echoes of those widely-discussed photos of the somber-looking actor at the Grammys had died down. It seemed like he was longing for the earth to open up and take him in while seated next to his cheerful wife.
KHLOE KARDASHIAN
Even though we’ve all experienced a less-than-perfect hair day now and then, it’s rare for such instances to be broadcasted across the internet.
Khloé Kardashian is part of an unlucky group, as a not-so-favorable picture from 2011 shows.
While wedded to basketball player Lamar Odom, the television personality found herself shopping in Dallas, but unfortunately, the windy conditions didn’t favor her. Instead, they provided an opportunity for pursuing photographers who were hot on her trail.
In my narrative, I portray a scene where a fierce gust of wind ruthlessly disheveled her well-styled hair while she was returning to her vehicle.
KHLOE KARDASHIAN (AGAIN)
It all began in 2021, when a leaked photo of Kardashian began circulating online.
In its original and untouched form, and absolutely free of Photoshop editing, the image showcased the well-known American television figure, devoid of makeup, donning a leopard print swimming suit, and striking a pose near an outdoor pool.
It appeared harmless at first glance, but upon further revelation, even the seemingly innocent incident involving the Kardashian family was eagerly scrubbed from the internet, for valid reasons.
In my perspective, for numerous individuals, the unauthorized photo-sharing incident served as a potent piece of criticism suggesting that I meticulously alter images prior to their dissemination on social platforms.
In response to the recent uproar, a visibly upset Kardashian took to Instagram several days later, posting live videos to demonstrate that her physical appearance, contrary to speculation, has not been digitally altered.
Afterward, she delivered an extended speech discussing the stress of being under constant scrutiny and her physical appearance being closely examined due to her public role.
The star confessed that being frequently compared to her sisters, Kim and Kourtney, along with continuous criticism and judgment, became an unbearable burden for her.
In my experience as a lifelong journeyer navigating body image, encountering an unflattering photograph taken under poor lighting or failing to accurately represent the hard-earned shape of my body can be disheartening. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenge to accept and love oneself, despite society’s often distorted ideals.
‘You should have every right to ask for it to not be shared, regardless of who you are.
She continued: ‘My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I want to share is my choice.
People should no longer have the power to dictate or pass judgment on what’s considered appropriate, in my opinion. I personally prefer images that have been carefully filtered, well-lit, and occasionally edited for a polished look.
JENNIFER ANISTON
God only knows what clean-living Ross Chandler would’ve thought if Rachel Green was a smoker.
It’s not unusual for many individuals, given the growing aversion towards smoking, that Jennifer Aniston decided to maintain a private stance on her non-smoking habits while off-camera.
However, in the year 2022, the well-known actress from “Friends” – who is recognized for her wholesome and healthy lifestyle portrayal in public – was caught on camera receiving a lit cigarette from her ex-husband, Justin Theroux.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I often find myself reflecting on the habits of celebrities, and Jennifer Aniston is no exception. While smoking was once a regular part of her daily routine, having admitted to being a ‘chain-smoker’ who smoked an entire pack each day during the early stages of her career, she has since decided to kick the habit. This decision, I believe, speaks volumes about her commitment to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
People understood the statement directly, with many assuming that she actually quit smoking in the year 2007 – three years following the recording of her last scenes on Friends.
Regrettably for Aniston, the incriminating video turned out to be false, and it was quickly removed from Theroux’s Instagram account.
BEYONCE
It doesn’t get much bigger than the Super Bowl.
Instead, you could say: Beyoncé, who captivated both a live audience of thousands and millions of television viewers during her 2013 halftime performance at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans as part of the sporting extravaganza, is an example to consider.
However, Beyoncé, affectionately known as ‘Queen Bey,’ didn’t seem too pleased with certain pictures that surfaced after her exhilarating show at the massive 83,000-seater venue, following her performance.
Indeed, tangled hair, tired muscles, and glistening skin aren’t attractive under normal circumstances. However, unfortunately, she had to face this unpleasant trio due to an article from the online platform Buzzfeed.
Due to Beyoncé’s disappointment, her representative reached out to the website directly, asking them to remove the problematic images.
Sadly for the R&B legend and her team, Buzzfeed refused.

LANA DEL REY
‘Hey Lana, get over here and pose for a photo next to this barbed wire fence!’
It’s understandable if Lana Del Rey might feel some regret over the choice she made in posing for a photograph outside the Cook County Department of Corrections in 2022, as things may not have turned out as expected.
The well-known singer, known for her heartfelt tunes on love, intimacy, and connections, was spotted walking hand-in-hand with musician Jack Donoghue near a barbed-wire boundary enclosing the Chicago prison.
It seems that Lana Del Rey, who is romantically linked to Donoghue, a founding member of the band Salem, appeared to verify their relationship when she was featured in a photo he posted on his Instagram. The image, accompanied by the caption “Family visit,” was shared online.
Previously, Donaghue stirred up debate by posting a picture showing him licking his pet dog’s tongue on social media.
Moreover, photographs exist that seem to portray the artist deeply embracing his first cousin with a kiss on the lips as well.
Del Rey is is now married to Jeremy Dufrene, a swamp tour guide from Louisiana.
