Ana de Armas shares why John Wick spin-off Ballerina was a “pretty surreal full circle moment”
Actress Ana de Armas has returned to our screens once more, this time with the film “Ballerina,” marking an unusual but fitting return for her – not due to her leading role in a fresh “John Wick” production.
10 years ago, Armas started her Hollywood journey appearing in “Knock Knock” alongside Keanu Reeves. Exactly a decade later, she worked with him once more in “Ballerina,” where Reeves reprised his role as John Wick in a secondary position.
She shared that it was an extraordinary experience to be involved with this film series, and having Keanu Reeves contribute to her movie now, adding a touch of grace to our production, is something she expressed to Digital Spy.

10 years ago, when I barely knew English and our encounter happened, I couldn’t truly savor it at the time, as working alongside him and sharing set moments. It was my Hollywood debut through the film “Knock Knock,” and now, a decade later, collaborating with him on this movie feels absolutely mind-blowing.
Len Wiseman, the director of ‘Ballerina’, even went so far as to term their reunion in this film as “destiny”. And, Marshella de Armas concurred, saying, “Indeed, that is destiny. It’s truly unique.
In the film “Ballerina,” it isn’t just her who got together with Reeves again. Norman Reedus had already collaborated with Reeves on an episode of his series, “Ride with Norman Reedus.
It appears he had a distinctly “Keanu Reeves” reaction when finding out he was entering the universe of the John Wick character.
Reedus shared with Digital Sply that he said, “They put me in your project”, to which the other person replied, “They did?” Apparently, he wasn’t aware of it. Reedus then expressed surprise by asking, “How can you not know this?”, but the response was simply, “Cool”. As for their conversation, they usually discuss motorcycles when they talk.
Regrettably, Reedus and de Armas do not appear together on screen in the movie Ballerina. However, Reedus spoke highly of de Armas and felt an immediate connection with her.
I tried to keep it simple and conversational while still conveying the original meaning.
In just a blink of an eye, actors can sense if their collaboration will be successful once they first encounter one another. It took me only moments to realize that she and I would click exceptionally well, much like kindred spirits in a harmonious home. This is something I remember vividly.
Her determination and diligence in her tasks, striving for perfection at every step, truly invigorated the atmosphere, making everything flow effortlessly. Despite the physical demands, I could tell it was going to be extraordinary.
Ballerina is released in cinemas on 6 June.
