Despite being connected to the John Wick series, Ana de Armas’s Ballerina achieved its streaming success on its own merits. When Keanu Reeves created John Wick in 2014, it’s doubtful he anticipated the significant and lasting influence the sleek, action-packed thriller would have on the genre.
Keanu Reeves’ career was struggling after a few unsuccessful films like 47 Ronin, Man of Tai Chi, and Knock Knock. Then, he starred in a thrilling action movie that unexpectedly launched one of the most popular action franchises of the 21st century. The success of John Wick opened doors for other projects, such as Bullet Train and Atomic Blonde, which might not have been made otherwise.

The world of John Wick has expanded beyond the original films with several official spin-offs and prequels. Ballerina, set to release in 2025, is one such project. This film takes place between the events of John Wick: Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), and stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro.
Eve dreams of being a ballerina, but when her mafia boss father is murdered, she’s forced to become a highly skilled assassin to get revenge. Similar to the movie John Wick, she battles numerous dangerous killers as she hunts down the group responsible for her father’s death, known as the Cultists. The film features a strong supporting cast, including Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, and the late Lance Reddick.
Ballerina Is A Worthy Successor To John Wick

I have to say, the cast of Ballerina is fantastic – even with stars like Ian McShane and Norman Reedus popping up in smaller parts, it’s more than just famous faces. What really excites me is that the movie seems to perfectly capture the amazing action we love from the John Wick films. Director Len Wiseman really knows how to showcase Ana de Armas’ incredible skills and make her look absolutely deadly!
Ana de Armas, who stood out in No Time To Die, delivers a compelling performance as Eve. She skillfully portrays a character who is both a ruthless killer and surprisingly graceful, giving the audience a poignant look at the life Eve could have lived if not for a violent quest for revenge.
What Ana De Armas Is Doing Next

While Ana de Armas’ film Ballerina didn’t do as well as hoped in theaters, it wasn’t a complete failure financially. This means her future projects are still highly anticipated. Deadline reports she was considering a role in director Grant Singer’s film Reenactment, planned for release in November 2025.
Grant Singer’s latest film, Reptile, was popular on Netflix with Benicio del Toro, and he’s now working with del Toro again on a new movie called Reenactment. Cameron Diaz is also confirmed to star, and Ana de Armas is in talks to join the project. De Armas has already demonstrated her talent for action thrillers in films like Ballerina and No Time to Die, making this a great next step after her John Wick spin-off.
