An “unforgettable” all-star biopic that “you’ll want to see again” has just been added to Netflix

The blockbuster film from 2023, titled “Oppenheimer”, is now available on Netflix in the United Kingdom and Ireland starting today, specifically on Saturday, 12th July.

In the creation of his gripping biographical film, director Christopher Nolan gathered together an extraordinarily talented ensemble, with Cillian Murphy portraying the lead character, and the likes of Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt also joining the impressive lineup.

The movie narrates the tale of J Robert Oppenheimer, who contributes to the development of the atomic bomb during World War II for the U.S., only to face an unfair investigation led by a rival intent on damaging his public image.

The movie became quite well-known when it was launched alongside “Barbie”, which resulted in the “Barbenheimer” effect. Eventually, it ranked third in earnings for that year’s box office, generating approximately $900 million globally.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement when I come across critically acclaimed films. This particular movie has left an impressive mark, boasting a staggering 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on more than 500 reviews! Just in case you were curious, even the much-anticipated Barbie film is trailing slightly behind with an 88% rating.

In my opinion, I found it to be a remarkable masterpiece and an unforgettable journey, skillfully directed by a career-peak performance from Cillian Murphy. This assessment is backed up by Digital Spy’s review, which lauded the editing, cinematography, and hauntingly ominous score as well.

Little White Lies referred to it as an unmissable, powerful historical biopic that you should rewatch immediately. On the other hand, the Toronto Star described it as a unique film unlike any other.

The Ringer highly commended Downey Jr’s acting, noting that following over a decade playing Iron Man and within the Marvel universe, “Downey Jr., as Lewis Strauss, demonstrated his range once more: delivering an anxious performance brimming with petty behavior, desperation, and strength.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d put it this way: While renowned critic Leonard Maltin generally praised the flick, he did point out that it was a tad lengthy, running for approximately 3 hours and 9 seconds.

Oppenheimer is available to stream now on Netflix.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy, featuring the exclusive Oasis – Live in ’25’, is now available! Grab your copy at newsstands or purchase online for only £8.99.
