New spy thriller The Amateur is trending in the UK after releasing on steaming service Disney+.
In this movie, Rami Malek plays a shy tech expert employed by the CIA. After his spouse’s tragic death, he feels compelled to act independently to seek justice.
Instead, he doesn’t fit the mold of a traditional spy, engaging in high-action and gunfights. Instead, he channels his expertise into crafting intricate traps for his objectives.
Since its recent premiere, the movie has been gaining popularity, becoming the most-viewed on Disney+ in the UK and globally.
The current run of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires” are neck-and-neck in popularity, according to FlixPatrol.

The film has an above-average 60% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes from 187 critic reviews.
Among the positive reviews given to the movie The Amateur, IGN commented that it skillfully blends the classic ambiance of a vintage spy tale with a compelling narrative about a tech-savvy CIA analyst who is unexpectedly thrust into dangerous circumstances due to ominous motives. The review went on to say that the film’s direction and talented cast effectively convey this atmosphere, resulting in an enjoyable viewing experience.
The deadline mentioned: “It’s like Jason Bourne meets the nerd world, and it ranks among the most exhilarating spy thrillers in recent years. Notably unique and emotional, it also carries a heartfelt human aspect.

At Digital Spy, we penned: “Even if you already know The Amateur’s final destination, the journey itself is still a thrilling ride.
In a somewhat split opinion, The Daily Beast remarked that the movie was predictable throughout but skillfully made due to its talented cast, labeling it as “the epitome of reliable” or “adequately satisfying.
However, if the film’s streaming success didn’t already show that viewers appreciated it significantly more than critics, its 88% average user score on Rotten Tomatoes certainly reinforces this.
The Amateur is available to stream now on Disney+.
The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25,” is now available! Grab a copy at your local newsstands or buy it online for only £8.99.
