Amy Schumer’s Moon Face Diagnosis: From Internet Trolls to Surprising Health Revelation
Amy Schumer revealed that remarks concerning her having a round, full face played a part in the eventual diagnosis of her condition known as Cushing Syndrome.
Without the social media users commenting about her puffy face, she mentioned that she might not have discovered the health issue as soon as she did.
On Wednesday, she shared her experience with the condition during her guest appearance on Call Her Daddy, confiding in podcast host Alex Cooper about how she discovered it.
43-year-old Emmy-winning actress remembered last year’s internet uproar when her face appeared swollen and went viral.
Initially, she disregarded remarks concerning her looks, but later, medical professionals began voicing their opinions on potential diagnoses, which prompted her to start considering them.
During her podcast, the comedian – who had previously made an unexpected sexual admission that some found unsettling – calmly assured the audience, “Alright everyone, let’s take it easy.
Then, she recalled starting to see physicians commenting on her appearance too.
Medical professionals expressed their thoughts in the comment section, stating, “There seems to be something unusual happening with you, as your face appears quite strange.
It came to her attention that some individuals were conjecturing that she might be suffering from Cushing syndrome – an ailment characterized by excessive levels of the hormone cortisol over a prolonged period, as defined by the Mayo Clinic.
The issue might arise when the body produces excessive amounts of cortisol, or when steroids are taken over a prolonged duration.
Key characteristics of this condition often involve a noticeable roll of fat at the base of the neck (referred to as a “buffalo hump”), a fuller facial appearance, and possible streaks of red or purple discoloration on the skin, which may be due to stretch marks.
Initially, the comedian responded with a blunt, “I find that offensive,” when confronted with comments regarding her having a ‘moon face.’
Later on, she remembered that she received steroid injections to help with the scars from her breast reduction operation and C-section delivery of their son Gene, who is currently five years old, following his birth in 2019 with her husband Chris Fischer.
As a die-hard enthusiast, let me share my story: I was undergoing those steroid injections, little did I know they would lead to this condition known as Cushing syndrome. If it weren’t for the internet, I wouldn’t have uncovered this mystery myself.

In February 2024, it was disclosed by the star of I Feel Pretty that a medical professional had diagnosed her with Cushing syndrome earlier that year.
At that moment, she remembered she was on the brink of shooting her forthcoming comedy film, titled Kinda Pregnant.
She shared that she discovered she had this specific health issue, along with what’s known as “moon face.” Additionally, she mentioned that she is currently acting in a film, with the spotlight literally on her face.
She remembered overhearing many comments like, “You look fabulous,” but one friend broke the ice with a candid observation, saying her face seemed a tad peculiar or unconventional.
Schumer said she ultimately ‘got rid’ of the syndrome with encouraging words.

On the podcast, she mentioned that prior to shooting this film, she had been struggling with low self-esteem.
‘I found it extremely challenging to find a role in a film with all the other things happening at that time.’
In my account, I felt a noticeable improvement when Director Lorraine Caffery commented, “You know, I truly believe you’re looking fantastic.
Schumer said: ‘I just needed one person to amp me up.’
