Amy Locane’s First Post-Prison Move: Dunkin’ Donuts
Amy Locane opened up about life after prison in a rare interview this week.
Approximately four months following her discharge, the actress from Melrose Place, aged 53, has opened up about the impact of her second prison term on her life and her current activities.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, published on Wednesday, she delved into her history, current situation, and aspirations for the future, which may involve a comeback to acting.
In 1990, this actress was famously paired with Johnny Depp in the musical comedy “Cry-Baby.” She later revealed what she did immediately after her mother fetched her from prison in late December 2024, a momentous occasion taking place mere days before Christmas.
In 2020, she spent a total of approximately six and a half years in prison due to a drunk driving accident which resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman and caused severe injuries to her husband.
Locane was imprisoned between 2013 and 2015, initially, for a conviction of second-degree vehicular manslaughter and assault with a vehicle. However, her sentence was later seen as insufficiently harsh, leading to her being incarcerated again from 2020 to 2024.

She revealed the day she was released, her mother immediately took her to get food.
‘My mom picked me up, and we went to Dunkin’ Donuts,’ she recalled.
Inside prison, life can feel quite sparse. Even a simple pleasure like enjoying coffee with real creamer becomes a significant luxury.
After her release, they too made a trip to the supermarket, and Locane seemed taken aback by all the changes that occurred while she was incarcerated. In simpler terms, she exclaimed, “I was amazed, ‘How on earth do I use this self-checkout machine?’
About her life post-prison, she confessed, “Being back in society feels incredibly vulnerable. I view the world with renewed perspective.
She spent her sentence in prison at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women, which is situated in Union Township, New Jersey.
While she was there, she mentioned that she held a well-compensated position, earning approximately $5 per day.
For several years, she outlined her daily routine. Specifically, she stated that an intense, neon light wakes her between 6 and 7 a.m. Thus, she opted to rise at 5 a.m., securing some personal time for herself before the day began.

Reflecting on my past, I spent every weekday afternoon, from midday until six, laboring tirelessly in the kitchen. My duties included cooking and cleaning, all for a meager five dollars a day.
‘It was intense manual labor, [but] I liked having some outlet, some form of exercise,’ she said.
Since 2010, she’s maintained sobriety, leads a quiet life with her family in New Jersey, yet expresses a desire to return to acting someday.
She pondered over the impact of abandoning Hollywood in 2006 on her personal life, and expressed that she felt a significant gap since she had been an actress for such a prolonged period.
About a possible return to acting, she said: ‘I would do it in a heartbeat.’
I’m absolutely thrilled about the revival of Melrose Place! Can you imagine having Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, and Daphne Zuniga back on our screens again? The anticipation is killing me! What a fantastic reunion it would be!
Currently, she mentioned that she’s working on rebuilding her bond with her daughters, Paige (age 18) and Avery (age 16), as they haven’t been together physically for a while.
She co-parents the two teenagers with Mark Bovenizer, the liquor store owner, who was her husband from 2008 to 2015.

Now residing beyond Princeton, New Jersey, she currently works at a medical office’s reception desk and regularly attends services at a nearby Presbyterian church.
She additionally mentioned that she’s currently working towards earning her Associate Degree, a pursuit she initiated in her second statement.
‘When I went away, I was getting good feedback from my professors. I learned I’m smart.’
She expressed her vision of the future, stating, ‘I envision myself and my family aging together.’ She also shared her desire to remarry, adding, ‘If I were to meet someone now, it would be freeing not to have to explain, “By the way, I might need to leave for a while,” which certainly sounds intriguing.’
Apart from returning to regular life, she acknowledged that she still grapples with the regret and pain she inflicted on her loved ones as well as the family of the woman who passed away.
To this point, I still carry deep regret. Living with such weighty guilt is extremely challenging for me, she expressed. In my daily prayers and spiritual reflections, I always remember her.
Later on, I mused: “It seems unfathomable that something which has such a profound impact on your life and reality could slip your mind. Though they were tough lessons, it’s said that the toughest lessons are the ones that foster growth. I refuse to let this experience dictate my identity.
