Amy Dowden’s Strictly partner JB Gill breaks his silence as dancer is forced to miss results show after being rushed to hospital
As a spectator of Strictly Come Dancing, it is truly heartwarming to witness the resilience and courage that Amy Dowden, the professional dancer, has shown throughout her journey. Her story is an inspiration to us all. Having battled not one but two types of cancer, undergoing surgeries, chemotherapy, fertility treatment, and even facing the brink of death due to sepsis – all while dealing with Crohn’s disease – she is a testament to the human spirit’s indomitable will to survive.
On Sunday evening, JB Gill from Strictly Come Dancing had to appear alone during the results show because his dance partner, Amy Dowden, had to be rushed to the hospital the previous night.
On Saturday evening, Amy didn’t appear at the Hertfordshire studios for Sunday’s pre-recorded show because she fainted backstage prior to the recording starting.
On Sunday, JLS member JB posted a message on Instagram, representing both him and Amy Dowden, expressing that they’ve advanced to another week.
‘I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for voting for us and sending well wishes. Our performance on Saturday was truly special, and we can’t thank you enough for helping us move forward to another week. Your support means the world to us.’
On the Sunday broadcast, viewers witnessed JB express to host Claudia Winkleman, “Amy will certainly be thrilled that we’ve made it to Icon Week.” (or simply, “JB shared with Claudia on Sunday that Amy would be delighted as they advanced to Icon Week.”)
Amy has so far not posted on social media since Saturday night.
To begin the program, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia announced that Amy wouldn’t be participating in the results show on Sunday because she was suddenly taken to the hospital on Saturday night.
34-year-old Welsh ballroom dancer, believed to have successfully overcome breast cancer, apparently fell unconscious backstage immediately after the live performance on Saturday.
Beginning the broadcast, Tess announced that Amy wouldn’t be joining us for tonight’s program.
On Sundays, the results episode of Strictly Come Dancing is taped following the live performance show on Saturdays. There’s a rumor that Amy might have fainted during the short interval the performers take between their shows.
On Sunday, an official from the East of England Ambulance Service reported that they received a call around 9 PM on Saturday for an urgent medical situation at Elstree Studios, located in Borehamwood.
‘An ambulance was sent to the scene. One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care.’
Just now, the dancer had danced the Foxtrot to the song “Dancing in the Moonlight” by Toploader, alongside her famous partner, JB Gill from JLS.
But fans noted the dancer was partially seated during her latest performance.
After receiving a combined total of 32 points from judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke, the duo moved up to fifth place on the Strictly leaderboard.
According to Amy’s representative, Amy wasn’t feeling well, so they decided to call an ambulance just to be on the safe side.
‘She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern.
‘We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected.’
Amy returned to the show following a two year absence in September.
In 2023, following their honeymoon with dancer spouse Ben Jones, her life took a dramatic turn when she received a cancer diagnosis just the day after returning home, causing her world to collapse around her.
Initially, she had pinned her hopes on surgery as a potential cure. However, two months later, in June, physicians discovered a different form of cancer instead.
Last year proved to be the most challenging of her life. This professional dancer faced a mastectomy, chemotherapy, fertility treatments, and came perilously close to succumbing to sepsis.
Amy, who also battles Crohn’s disease, confirmed she was cancer-free in February.
Despite facing another five years with necessary treatments, she expressed gratitude towards her loved ones for their unwavering support during what she described as her most challenging year.
Posting a joyful photo on Instagram, she captioned it: “I’ve got no signs of illness! A long-awaited phrase! My greatest achievement so far!
Over the next five years, I’m not expected to receive a clean bill of health, given my hormone-dependent cancer. However, it has all been worthwhile. Hearing those words, which I once thought unimaginable, makes it all worthwhile.
‘So grateful for all the care I received and continue to have.
‘To my husband, family and friends who supported me unconditionally and to you guys! Thank you!’
She continued: ‘I will still need a monthly injection for 5 years and regular check ups.
After enduring a challenging year with chemotherapy, my body has definitely suffered, both physically and emotionally. Therefore, I plan to spend the upcoming months focusing on healing and restoration.
I’m brimming with aspirations and a renewed zest for living, and I couldn’t be more thankful for this second opportunity at life! Not everyone is fortunate enough to experience this. My perspective on life has undeniably shifted, and it will never be the same again!
