As someone who has followed Strictly Come Dancing for years, I have always been in awe of the incredible talents and hard work that go into making the show a success. But, as Amanda Abbington’s recent interview with Channel 4 reveals, behind the scenes there have been instances where things didn’t go as they should have.

On Monday, Amy Dowden and Gorka Marquez were among the first Strictly Come Dancing professionals to report for rehearsals in Camden, North London.

Amy, aged thirty-three, wore a cheerful expression and slipped into black exercise clothes before heading to the fitness class.

I’ve worked on my fair share of productions in the media industry, and let me tell you, nothing is more disheartening than seeing a show that’s already embroiled in controversy face even greater turmoil. This week, things took a turn for the worse for the beleaguered programme, as staff members came forward with allegations of being interrogated about their personal lives, specifically their sex lives. To label such an environment as “toxic and cruel” is putting it mildly. It’s disheartening to think that in today’s world, people are still subjected to such invasive and demeaning treatment at work. It’s important for production companies to prioritize the wellbeing of their staff above all else and create a safe and inclusive workplace culture.

At the event, 33-year-old Pro Gorka entered with an upbeat attitude, accompanied by Lauren Oakley who confidently displayed her toned legs in a pair of short black shorts.

On Mondays arrival, both Carlos Gu and recently split-up Kai Widdrington were spotted; they chose to ride a Lime Bike instead for their commute.

After Monday’s crisis in “Strictly,” where backstage personnel labeled the scandalous show as “toxic” and “cruel,” the pros made their appearance.

Since Amanda Abbinson, Giovanni Pernice’s celebrity partner on the BBC show, alleged that he had behaved abusively towards her, labeling him as “cruel and mean,” the program has been shrouded in controversy. However, Pernice refutes these accusations.

Last month, Graziano Di Prima was let go from his position following accusations of verbally and physically abusing Zara McDermott during rehearsals. Graziano has issued an apology for having kicked his ex-partner, but denies that other alleged incidents align with his recollection of the events.

As reported by The Observer, dance series production workers have claimed they were questioned about their personal sex lives.

One person expressed concern over the unfair treatment of skilled colleagues, while another described the work atmosphere on the show eight years ago as tense, harmful, and uneasy.

The person shared with the media outlet that they had received inappropriate and sexually charged remarks, such as questions regarding their personal sexual experiences.

A representative from the BBC stressed, “The well-being of our crew members involved in every episode of Strictly Come Dancing is a top priority for us.”

When issues arise, we respond promptly with well-established, comprehensive, and enduring solutions. We do not acknowledge allegations of a toxic work environment.

TopMob has contacted the BBC for comment.

The celebs on Strictly Come Dancing are said to have to take weekly psychological evaluations during the next season, as the program faces ongoing criticism for alleged misconduct.

In the upcoming competition next year, participants such as Pete Wicks from TOWIE, Nick Knowles of DIY SOS, and Jamie Borthwick from soaps, aged 36, 61, and 30 respectively, are expected to engage frequently with mental health professionals while they are on the show.

Chris McCausland, a 47-year-old blind comedian, and Ralf Little, a 44-year-old actor known for his roles in Death In Paradise, are among the celebrities rumored to join the dance floor in the upcoming season.

Additionally, according to The Mirror, the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars may encourage celebrities to don their dancing shoes, but it will also involve mandatory mental health assessments to help them cope with the weekly pressure of mastering new dance routines.

As a devoted follower, I can share with you that a reliable source has disclosed to the publication that this move aims to provide a secure environment where individuals can openly express their worries and be truly heard.

In addition, the Beeb executives can keep track of the celebrities’ experiences with the show’s demands.

As a former celebrity myself, I can fully understand and empathize with the situation that both celebrities and professional dancers find themselves in during times of public scrutiny and controversy. From my own experiences, I know that the limelight can bring unwanted attention, criticism, and even bullying.

A few days ago, Strictly Come Dancing faced more trouble when Amanda accused Giovanni of attempting to prevent the broadcast of around 50 hours of allegedly harmful material after she reported bullying incidents to the BBC.

During an intense interview with Channel 4 News, I found myself drawing a comparison between the intense pressures and challenges of participating in the dance show to being in the trenches. The producers from the BBC were reportedly left shocked and appalled by certain clips that also contained allegations of humiliating behavior of a sexual nature.

Last year, Sherlock’s star unexpectedly withdrew from the dance competition, explaining it was due to “personal matters.” Later, rumors emerged that she had requested access to her rehearsal videos following a distressing encounter with the program and her dance partner. The aftermath reportedly caused her PTSD.

Gwynnio, who vigorously refutes allegations of threatening or abusive actions towards anyone, was subsequently suspended. The BBC initiated an investigation following accusations of inappropriate conduct outside the camera’s view from Amanda and other famous personalities.

In an unexpected turn of events in the Strictly controversy, the actress alleges that Giovanni attempted to prevent her lawyers from obtaining the supposed video proof following Amanda’s complaints, leading producers to install cameras in the dance studio.

I’ve come across fifty hours of video content that’s been withheld. Let me tell you, fifty hours is an immense amount of footage, and it equates to an extensive period spent in an unhealthy environment. (I spoke this to Krishnan Guru-Murthy during our conversation.)

As a lifestyle expert, I believe in transparency and honesty. I’ve come across some intriguing evidence concerning an incident that took place in a particular room. I want to make it clear that I’m not the one preventing access to this information. In fact, I’ve encouraged others to view it. However, the person involved (let’s call him Giovanni) seems reluctant, which raises some questions if he has nothing to conceal.

A representative for Giovanni asked TopMob not to jump to conclusions before the investigation was over, and advised disregarding unproven and damaging accusations.

After the initial week of rehearsals, the actress expressed worries to the producers about having cameras set up in their rehearsal space. They wanted to monitor her and Giovanni’s progress weekly by watching the footage.

Giovanni had claimed he had asked for the cameras, which Amanda says is untrue.

In the initial stage of this new journey, I didn’t hesitate to voice my apprehensions directly to those in charge. It wasn’t an easy feat, but I felt it was essential for addressing potential issues head-on.

“Giovanni claimed he requested the cameras, but I’m certain he didn’t because the producers informed me they were installing them for weekly evaluation of the footage.”

After about five weeks, on Fridays, the producer would tell me, “We’ve reviewed the footage, and we’re deeply disturbed and apologetic.”

‘That was to my face on the Friday when we would go in and do the camera rehearsal.’

During the interview, Guru-Murthy brought up the allegations against Amanda, who was a cast member on the 2023 series, asking if it was true that she had endured sexually humiliating treatment. With great difficulty, Amanda confirmed this with tears welling up in her eyes.

‘Yeah. I mean, you know, one of the many things,’ she said, clarifying it was not harassment.

Since the accusations surfaced, Giovanni has consistently refuted them. He asserts that he presented a body of proof to BBC investigators and remains optimistic about clearing his name.

After Amanda gave her interview last night, a representative for the Italian dancer responded by saying: The BBC has passed on to us the accusations they have verified.

In their own words, Amanda’s recent accusations presented to Channel 4 don’t match up with what Giovanni has done in any way. He denies any involvement in threatening or abusive actions.

After the incident, Amanda mentioned that no one from the BBC reached out to her once more, stating: “I haven’t exchanged words with anyone at the BBC following Strictly.”

‘No one from the BBC has reached out to me since Strictly, either through me or my lawyer.’

Based on my personal experience and having worked with various media organizations for over a decade, I strongly urge those responsible for the BBC show that has been airing since 2004 to stay informed about any potential issues arising within their production. When you become aware of such matters, take swift action to address them promptly before they escalate further. Don’t let problems linger and fester, as this could negatively impact the reputation and integrity of your show.

Amanda asserted that she’s received numerous threatening messages, some from ardent “Strictly” followers and others from supporters of “Giovanni,” questioning how she could ruin a beloved institution like “Strictly.”

In her interview with Channel 4, she shared the severity of the harassment she’s experienced over the past few months from online bullies. She described it as “extremely harsh, constant, and merciless.”

She expressed surprise at the unexpected consequences, which included death and rape threats aimed at her and her children. Her son also received threats of harm.

She remarked, “When it’s just a few people criticizing you, you can shrug it off. But when it’s countless individuals telling you to ‘go kill yourself,’ ‘go die of cancer,’ or ‘your kids would be better off without you as a mother,’ it becomes much harder to bear.”

Amanda shared other distressing messages she claimed to have received. Some of these messages contained threats such as “I wish your daughter will be raped,” “May your son be stabbed,” and “You don’t deserve the good things you’ve accomplished.” There were also messages that insulted her character, like “You’re a snowflake,” “You’re stupid,” and “You’re an idiot.”

A shocking interview adds fuel to the controversy surrounding BBC One’s popular show, with numerous accusations causing both Giovanni and professional partner Graziano Di Prima to resign.

Giovanni was accused of bullying by Amanda as well as two other, unnamed contestants.

Last week, Zasra McDermott’s allegations against Graziano surfaced, leading to his termination from the show. These accusations included him kicking, hitting, and spitting at her during rehearsals the previous year.

I’m truly inspired by Will Bayley’s recent interview about his experience on the popular show. As a Paralympian myself, I can relate to the unique challenges and triumphs that come with pushing beyond one’s limits. It’s always fascinating to hear from fellow athletes about their journeys and how they continue to defy expectations both on and off the field. Kudos to Will for sharing his story!

In 2019, a 36-year-old contestant partnered with Janette Manrara expressed that his life was drastically altered due to having to repeat a jump during a dance routine. He voiced concerns over the responsibility Strictly Come Dancing held towards ensuring his wellbeing.

If the BBC invites people with disabilities on board, they have a responsibility to ensure their well-being and security.)

I’ve raised this issue before on numerous occasions, but unfortunately, it seemed to fall on deaf ears until recently when other similar stories gained attention.

“My knee injury is something that will significantly impact the rest of my life. I won’t be able to fully recover from it and will need to manage it on an ongoing basis.”

I mirrored Will’s requests during my chat with Channel 4, advocating for a more transparent platform where famous participants feel secure enough to express their worries without the threat of backlash.

The BBC stated that we have established procedures for handling injuries, ensuring that contestants receive adequate treatment and assistance when needed.

“She mentioned that providing a platform for viewers to share their grievances is another area for potential enhancement. This would enable individuals to express any feelings of being mistreated or harassed.”

If you find yourself in a situation that seems harmful or dangerous, it takes bravery to speak up. Unfortunately, we’re not creating an atmosphere where such actions are encouraged.

Women who speak up about issues often face harsh criticism in the media, receiving threats of rape, death, and being dismissed.

Amanda hasn’t shared any specific instances of Giovanni’s conduct during rehearsals with the public. Nevertheless, she has labeled him as abusive, cruel, and mean.

During the interview, she mentioned that ex-partners of Giovanni’s reached out to her after it became public they would be working together on the phone.

The actress said she received messages that said ‘I am so sorry, it’s going to be quite tough’.

Giovanni consistently maintains his innocence, denying all claims of threatening or abusive actions.

The representative for the dancer stated that he had given the investigators a folder filled with proof and is “absolutely certain” about being exonerated.

In response to those doubting Amanda’s claimed encounter, the actress asserted during her recent interview, “The events in that room transpired due to my personal experience.”

In a calm and composed manner, I don’t exaggerate situations or get overly emotional. What transpired in that room was unacceptable.

‘I complained about it and have not been taken seriously.;

She mentioned that three other women, in addition to some possible others, had voiced complaints.

Creating an atmosphere where individuals, whether male or female, feel empowered to express discomfort and initiate change when necessary. Once concerns are voiced, appropriate actions should follow.

As a passionate advocate for women’s rights, I firmly believe that each of us must find the courage to speak out and support those who are unable to express themselves. By standing alongside these silenced women, I commit to using my voice and influence on their behalf, amplifying their stories and championing their causes.

Amanda maintained during the interview that she didn’t desire to criticize or “tear down” the program, and expressed admiration for those who had positive things to say about it instead.

She expressed her deep affection for Strictly and regretted not having the opportunity to participate and cherish a stunning experience on the show. Her envy grew for those who had this memorable journey, feeling elated for them, but saddened by her own missed chance.

Channel 4’s interview with Amanda came at a time when BBC leaders were reportedly livid over the investigation into her complaint about Strictly.

One source close to the BBC shared with TopMob that Amanda appears determined to leave a lingering shadow over Strictly, despite her departure.

I can’t help but feel deeply disappointed when it comes to that show. I’ve made no secret of my displeasure, but why rain on others’ parade?

Based on my experience as a seasoned investigative journalist, I can tell you that when there seems to be a lack of concrete evidence in a complaint against someone like Giovanni, the situation can get messy and protracted. The accuser might feel compelled to rally support from others who have had similar experiences or observations, fueling the flames of controversy. In the end, it’s not uncommon for such stories to eventually make headlines in the press, keeping the row alive and generating widespread public attention.

On Tuesday, Tim Davie, the BBC’s director-general, expressed concern and apologized, stating, “The line must not be overstepped.” He added, “I’m truly sorry if anyone’s experience on Strictly Come Dancing wasn’t completely positive.”

Apologies if that occurred, it’s a point worth pondering. Should anyone hold concerns or desire discussion regarding past events, please don’t hesitate to bring it up. We value your feedback and are committed to addressing any issues promptly and thoroughly.

Mr. Davie also mentioned, “There will certainly be elements of enjoyment and amusement. However, it’s important to remember that there will also be healthy competition, dedication, and a strong desire to excel. These aspects are essential components of the show.”

While we encourage acceptable conduct, it’s important to remember that boundaries exist. Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

I’m thrilled to hear that Mr. Davie has apologized to the celebrities, but unfortunately, no one from the production team has reached out to me since I filed my complaint.

After speaking with Channel 4, she shared that she received multiple inquiries from some of the producers, expressing concern for her well-being.

After the controversy ensued and everyone began criticizing harshly with even death threats emerging, which were widely publicized, I was left without any contact from them. Additionally, false information spread, making matters worse.

Asked if there was any aftercare provided, she replied: ‘No, it would have been nice I suppose.’

On Monday, rehearsals kicked off for the latest dance series. Today, at a London dance studio, industry experts like Johannes Radebe, Amy Dowden, and Dianne Buswell came with cheerful expressions to hone their moves.

In reaction to Amanda’s most recent interview, a representative from the BBC stated: “Out of respect for due process and confidentiality, we cannot provide additional comments about specific individuals involved in any complaints.”

Previously mentioned, let’s remind you again not to engage in guesswork. In a broader sense, the responsibility for welfare is a top priority for both the BBC and BBC Studios.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m constantly striving to improve the experience for everyone involved in my favorite dance competition, Strictly Come Dancing. Every year, I carefully assess and update our processes to ensure they meet the highest standards of welfare and support. Last week, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve taken additional steps to further enhance these measures, ensuring an even more nurturing and positive environment for all our dancers and crew members.

The BBC went on to state: “BBC and BBC Studios place a great deal of importance on the well-being of our cast and crew. Last week, we revealed more measures to enhance welfare and assistance for the production.”
