Amy Childs shared that her family is facing a very difficult time. Her cousin’s baby daughter has been diagnosed with a fast-growing and serious brain tumor.
I was so heartbroken to hear about little Lila, my cousin’s five-month-old daughter. She was diagnosed with AT/RT when she was just three weeks old, and my cousin has started a fundraiser to help with her treatment. I immediately shared the news on my Instagram, hoping my followers will either share the fundraiser or donate if they can. It means the world to our family, and any little bit helps.
Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, or AT/RT, is a rare and quickly-developing cancer that affects the brains and spinal cords of very young children, typically those three years old or younger. It’s known for being an aggressive type of cancer.
On Wednesday, Amy posted a screenshot of her cousin Hannah Brincat’s fundraising page on JustGiving, along with a message.
As someone who believes in the power of community, I’m asking for your support for sweet Lila, my cousin’s daughter. She’s facing a really tough battle right now, and honestly, every little bit helps her family. If you’re able to contribute, that would be amazing, but even just sharing her story with your network means the world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
On the fundraising page, Amy’s cousin shared news about Lila’s diagnosis, writing: ‘Our sweet little Lila is just 5 months old, but she’s already faced more challenges than most adults. She’s such a brave little fighter, our little lion cub.’
Oh my god, Lila… her story just breaks my heart. Can you believe she was diagnosed with this awful tumor, ATRT, when she was only three weeks old? Three weeks! And then, a nine-hour brain surgery… at three weeks old! It’s just unimaginable. And it didn’t stop there, she started chemo when she was barely five weeks old. Honestly, that’s just scratching the surface of everything she’s been through, it’s so much more than people realize. I just can’t even begin to understand how strong she is.
‘What one tiny baby has endured in her 5 months of life has taught us some serious life lessons.’
Little Lila is a remarkably strong baby who has already overcome so many challenges and met every goal set by her doctors. Sadly, recent tests after six rounds of chemotherapy revealed that her tumor has grown back.
‘We were told that treatment would not continue and we were out of options.’
For the past four months, we’ve been living in the hospital, away from our other three children. Now, we’re staying at a children’s hospice for the past two weeks. Everything has changed, and we’re heartbroken.
Hannah shared that the family has contacted an oncologist in Toronto, a leading researcher in AT/RT, to get a second opinion on the case.
Honestly, I’m feeling completely in the dark right now. I have no clue what my choices are, what those choices even look like, or what any of it might cost me. It’s a really frustrating place to be, trying to plan for the future when everything feels so uncertain.
So, any potential opportunities are unpredictable. However, if something promising does arise, especially if it involves money, we need to be ready to act quickly, as we don’t have much time.
Okay, so Hannah finished her message and basically promised that every single penny we donate won’t be for nothing! She said if, if their plan doesn’t work – and honestly, it WILL work, I just know it – then all the money will go to the amazing charities that have been helping them out. It’s such a relief to know that even if things don’t go exactly as planned, something good will still come of it. It just makes me want to donate even MORE!
At the time of publication the fundraising page had raised £24,350 of the £25,000 goal.
