Amy Adams runs with the dogs in the first-look photos for Nightbitch
As a huge fan of Amy Adams, I’m thrilled to see her take on the surreal and intriguing role of “Mother” in Marielle Heller’s upcoming film “Nightbitch.” Based on Rachel Yoder’s critically acclaimed novel, this magical realism tale explores themes of feminism, motherhood, and the experiences of the female body.
Amy Adams portrays a mother called “Mother” in the upcoming film “Nightbitch” by Searchlight Pictures. She’s a stay-at-home mom finding it tough to keep up as her world revolves around her son, which eventually results in an extraordinary and canine metamorphosis.
Drawing inspiration from Rachel Yoder’s acclaimed novel “Nightbitch,” this story gained recognition for its explorations of feminism and motherhood. As a magical realism work, “Nightbitch” may not offer a straightforward approach to filmmaking. However, with the involvement of writer-director Marielle Heller (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”), the intricacies of the story began to coalesce.
When I chatted with Vanity Fair about the upcoming movie set to hit theaters in December, I couldn’t help but reminisce about the moment I first read the novel and felt an overwhelming urge to bring it to life through my production company in collaboration with Annapurna Pictures. Even Yoder was taken aback, as she had always believed her story to be too introspective for a film adaptation.
After securing Heller’s involvement in the project, we began to brainstorm how to bring the story to life. The director characterizes “Nightbitch” as a witty comedy for women, coupled with heart-pounding horror elements designed for men. However, Hillary Busis from Vanity Fair elucidates that this film masterfully intertwines these diverse themes, making it an engaging experience for all audiences.
The essential theme of the film revolves around a woman who feels she’s transforming into a canine. She starts observing fur sprouting on various body parts and other peculiar characteristics such as an enhanced sense of smell. This metamorphosis serves as a symbolic representation of motherhood and the physical changes women encounter.
Alongside the detailed article about Adams published by the media outlet, we are given our initial glimpse into her character in “Nightbitch.” This sneak peek is accompanied by a picture of Adams, surrounded by several dogs, possibly sensing that she shares their canine nature. An additional photograph captures Adams portrayed as Mother, gazing at the sky (possibly the moon?) from her yard, dressed only in a nightshirt.

In the origin of this description, you’ll discover four extra images. One portrays Mother sitting seemingly at a playground or a dog park, with several dogs making their way towards her. Another depicts her seated at the kitchen table with her husband (Scoot McNairy) and son. A third image suggests Mother engaged in painting, alluding to the profession she had to abandon to care for her child.
Nightbitch will be released theatrically on December 6.
