As a connoisseur of the strange and unusual, I find myself intrigued by the upcoming film adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s novel, Nightbitch. The trailer has certainly piqued my curiosity, albeit in a way that’s left me scratching my head and questioning my sanity.
frankly, the latest Nightbitch trailer didn’t match my expectations as I anticipated the film based on Rachel Yoder’s 2021 novel. It seems this could become a highly divisive movie.
It’s beneficial that the film features a powerful ensemble headed by Amy Adams, a nominee for the Academy Award. In this movie, Adams portrays a housewife whose life takes a terrifying turn when she starts exhibiting canine characteristics, such as elongated teeth, excessive body hair, and an insatiable appetite typically found in animals.
The trailer hints at a narrative revolving around a woman who appears somewhat disenchanted with her routine life and motherhood, complete with its pressures and demands. However, events take an unsettling turn as she develops an unusual connection with the local dogs. Scenes in the trailer depict her scrutinizing her teeth, sprinting alongside canines, eating dog food, and displaying other questionable behaviors. The trailer also includes a touch of whimsy that I hadn’t expected.
In its initial trailer, the movie “Nightbitch” seems to steer away from traditional horror elements, instead appearing as a darkly humorous production. I’m eager to see how this tone translates into the completed film.

Marielle Heller, the writer and director of the upcoming movie, previously characterized it as a comedy that particularly resonates with women, while men might find it terrifyingly similar to a horror film. According to an initial article in Vanity Fair, the film, titled “Nightbitch,” also contains scenes of intense physical horror. From the trailer alone, it seems there’s more to this movie than just humor; I only wish they had given a sneak peek into those darker elements as well.
Besides Amy Adams portraying the main character known as “Mother,” Scoot McNairy takes on the role of “Mother’s Spouse.” Additionally, Mary Holland, Zoe Chao, Ella Thomas, and Jessica Snowden are part of the cast.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “Nightbitch” is set to hit the big screen, thanks to Searchlight Pictures! The film will make its grand debut in cinemas from December 6, following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.
