American Psycho fans furious as new film announced 24 years after Christian Bale classic: 'Pointless!'

As I delve into the captivating tale of Christian Bale, a man whose commitment to his craft is unparalleled, I find myself in awe of his dedication and resilience. From embodying the chilling psychopath Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, to transforming himself for roles as diverse as Trevor Reznik in The Machinist and Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, Bale has proven time and again that he will go to great lengths to bring his characters to life.

Fans of American Psycho are fuming following the announcement of a fresh adaptation, marking 24 years since the iconic version featuring Christian Bale hit screens.

50-year-old Bale garnered significant praise for his role as the corporate serial killer Patrick Bateman, portrayed in the 2000 film helmed by Mary Harron. Since then, the movie has gained a devoted fanbase that has grown over the years.

Currently, the acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino, who was nominated for an Oscar with Call Me By Your Name, is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to helm a movie adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel.

Adam Fogelson, Chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed excitement about welcoming yet another top-tier filmmaker to our forthcoming lineup. Luca Guadagnino is an exceptionally gifted storyteller, making him an ideal choice to reimagine this powerful and timeless intellectual property with his unique perspective.

The Bourne Ultimatum’s Scott Z. Burns has written the screenplay for new film.

At the moment, it’s unclear who will be cast as Bateman, yet the announcement of the movie production has sparked anger among fans due to the perceived unnecessary choice.

One fan wrote: ‘I’m sorry, we do NOT need a new american psycho film. i don’t care if patrick bateman himself is directing. no! let something be sacred still.’

Another typed: ‘I am kind of the opinion that Mary Harron’s American Psycho is so perfect that another adaptation seems pointless tho.

Others wrote: ‘an american psycho remake is the last thing we need rn’,’american psycho is perfect as it is. that movie does not need improvements.

‘Even if it’s Luca, I don’t want it. That’s how perfect AMERICAN PSYCHO already is

‘there’s already an american psycho movie! stop remaking movies that are already movies!

Some fans endorsed the move, expressing: “Suspiria was phenomenal. If there’s anyone capable of remaking it, it’s Guadagnino. Can’t wait to witness their interpretation of American Psycho.

Mary Harron’s American Psycho is nearly flawless, but since Luca’s remake of Suspiria was so outstanding, I’m eagerly anticipating how he might approach this story.

In the year 2002, a separate continuation titled “American Psycho 2” hit the screens, featuring Mila Kunis and William Shatner in its cast.

Kunis portrayed a criminology student who seeks to advance her career by murdering her classmates.

In a well-known manner, Bale became known for his meticulous method of portraying a psychopath. Previously, it had been disclosed that he could even produce sweat on command for his scenes with the director.

In addition, Bale significantly changed his body, consistently adopted an American accent, and opted to isolate himself from other cast members during filming for the part.

In addition to Reese Witherspoon, Chloe Sevigny, Willem Dafoe, and Jared Leto, this movie featured Paul Allen in a role that became widely recognized and memed.

2004 found me, the fervent admirer, immersed in Christopher Nolan’s film, The Machinist. To embody the haunting figure of Trevor Reznik, Bale, my idol, shed an astonishing five stone. His method? A life devoid of sleep and sustained solely on a meager diet of coffee and apples.

Following his casting as the Caped Crusader in Batman Begins, Christian Bale quickly increased his slender 121-pound (8 stone 6 pounds) physique within a mere six weeks.

In 2022 Bale revealed he got paid even less than the makeup artists working on the film.

During an interview with GQ, Bale reminisced about instances where makeup artists chuckled over the wage discrepancy, asserting that he was earning the lowest legal salary.

He explained to the magazine that they were giving him the smallest amount possible, according to the law, but at that time, he was living in a shared house with his father and sister, and unfortunately, it was at risk of being taken away from us (repossessed).

Initially, there was a need expressed: “Wow, I really need to earn some cash,” since I’ve completed American Psycho, but I recall an instance where the makeup artists would joke with me in the trailer because I was earning less than any of them.

After that, my driving force became clear – I needed to earn enough to prevent the house from being seized. In simpler terms, it was about ensuring financial stability.
