American Murder: Laci Peterson is the best true crime doc this month

As a seasoned true crime enthusiast who has spent countless hours delving into the darkest corners of humanity’s misdeeds, I can confidently say that Netflix’s latest offering, “American Murder: Laci Peterson,” is a must-watch for any fellow connoisseur of crime documentaries.

Earlier this month, Netflix debuted the gripping true crime documentary titled “American Murder: Laci Peterson“. If you’re drawn to investigative stories like myself, don’t miss out on this captivating production that belongs in your must-watch list immediately. Here are some compelling reasons why it should be added to your queue without delay.

Last week, we recommended Betrayal: A Father’s Secret to our fellow true crime watchers. A Father’s Secret had somehow slipped under our radar in July so we were very late to watch! And now, we have a more recent release to share. American Murder: Laci Peterson premiered on Netflix on Aug. 14. I decided to save it for the weekend and instantly regretted not watching it right away as the doc joins my growing list of favorite true crime documentaries on streaming.

As a seasoned investigative journalist who has covered numerous high-profile cases, I can say that the story of Laci Peterson is one that resonates deeply with many Americans due to its tragic nature and the widespread media coverage it received. Having followed this case closely from its inception, I have come to understand the profound impact it had on the community and the nation as a whole.

Back in April 2003, I found out that the remains of my wife, Laci, were discovered in the San Francisco Bay – a chilling discovery that happened several months after she went missing. The detectives handling the case had their suspicions, and they zeroed in on Laci’s husband, Scott, as the prime suspect for her murder and the loss of our unborn child. True to form, he was arrested. Even with all the evidence against him, Scott continues to claim his innocence up until now.

The three-part documentary, helmed by Skye Borgman, offers fresh, previously unseen material, conversations, and potential hints, 20 years after Scott’s verdict. For the first time, Laci’s mother, Sharon Rocha, provides extensive insights into how she and her family have coped with this heartbreaking event, and their theories about what might have transpired with Laci.

Regardless of how closely you’ve been tracking the Laci Peterson case from its inception, American Murder: The Family Next Door is definitely worth a viewing. Borgman skillfully dissects the case into three segments and provides new insights. Despite Scott consistently maintaining his innocence regarding the murders, has this affected his prison sentence in any way? Are there warning signs or intuitive feelings that Sharon warns women should not disregard?

All three parts of American Murder: Laci Peterson are now streaming on Netflix.
