It has been disclosed that the reason behind the passing of Doug Kiker, a notable contestant on American Idol, occurred recently at the age of 32.

The medical examiner has determined that his demise was unintentional, stemming from a harmful mix of fentanyl, methadone, and amphetamines, along with recent usage of cocaine.

It was announced in March 2025 that the musician was admitted to the hospital, following an encounter with a stranger who noticed his unusual appearance while walking in Denver and raised concerns.

According to the report, it seemed concerning to the bystander (the good Samaritan) as Kiker walked alone on the street, prompting them to contact the authorities out of concern.

As a devoted admirer, I sadly share that during the 18th season of American Idol, Kiker was taken to the hospital and passed away five days after admission.

Previously, a man named Kiker, famously recognized as ‘The Singing Garbage Man’, had showcased his talent on a popular singing competition show during its 18th season. During his audition, he performed Rascal Flatts’ heartfelt song, “Bless the Broken Road”.

Valerie Cook, his former fiancée, alongside family members such as his sister Angela and brother William, have all confirmed his passing.

On social media, Angela sadly shared that Kiker’s death came as an unforeseen shock, leaving those close to him utterly unready.

A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has been set up to assist with the challenging endeavor of repatriating him and covering the costs associated with his funeral.

Doug, too, was the loving father of two daughters he had with Valerie. And as Valerie shared with TMZ, it is something she deeply regrets that their daughters are now bereaved of their father, a feeling she expresses as intense dislike.

Angela shared a heartfelt message on social media, announcing the passing of her brother. She expressed that she was reaching out to others since many had inquired about ways they could offer assistance.

Moreover, it’s crucial that we pay our respects to this individual with a fitting memorial – one that would truly honor not just him, but anyone who deserves such a tribute.

Afterward, she conveyed her thanks for the phone calls and messages she’s been receiving, along with the ongoing prayers during this particularly tough period of her life.

‘We need assistance in giving our cherished one a final farewell. Douglas, who was not only our son and brother but also an exceptional father and friend, was one of the kindest and funniest individuals we have ever known.’

His impressive performance moved the judges to their feet with a standing ovation, and it was particularly affecting as it made Katy Perry shed tears.

Instead, he didn’t advance beyond the Hollywood Week phase, which followed his initial mistake of singing a different song, eventually performing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
