American Horror Stories: Clone delivers a darkly humorous twist ending

As a long-time fan of the twisted and captivating world that is “American Horror Story”, I must say that the latest episode, titled “Clone”, left me absolutely spellbound! The return of Victor Garber, playing not one but two characters, was an absolute treat for my eyes.

Instead of saying “What could be better than one Victor Garber? How about two?” you could rephrase it as “Could anything be superior to having one Victor Garber? Perhaps having two would be ideal!” The episode in question from the American Horror Stories, a spinoff of American Horror Story streaming on Hulu, is based on this idea.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the upcoming episode titled “Clone” from season 3B! In this gripping tale, we’ll delve into the intriguing world of self-replication, where the character Garber portrays the wealthy tech mogul, David Randolph. Stricken by poor health, David finds himself slipping into a coma. His partner, John (played by Guy Burnet), is left in disbelief when he uncovers an intricate contingency plan devised by David, designed for just such a situation.

His strategy entails using a android resembling David as a companion for John while he’s still in recovery. This ensures that John won’t feel lonely and also allows them to test their advanced AI technology. However, the narrative takes an unexpected turn, leading you to think you have a clear idea of where it’s going. But the last few moments take a sharp turn into over-the-top, campy territory.

David’s chilling realization

Initially, John felt uneasy towards the replica of David. However, once he discovered that David had taken care of a former friend and potential attacker, Jordan (Casey Thomas Brown), by eliminating the threat, John began to embrace the idea more positively.

Overwhelmed by his feelings, John plants a kiss on David, recognizing that with the android version of David, he could experience the relationship he’s always yearned for with the authentic David. Unfortunately, the real David often left John feeling like a live-in housekeeper rather than a genuine romantic partner. However, Clone!David and John found a strong connection and enjoyed each other’s company immensely, going out to clubs, dancing, socializing, and more.

Initially, John contemplates a vibrant future with an android, but then receives a call from David’s company. It turns out that the real David is alive. Now, John is no longer enamored with an android; instead, he encounters a clone of David who has been sent back to the facility. However, John’s feelings towards their past relationship linger strongly. He confronts the real David and expresses his desire for a transformation in their relationship.

You might assume that John and Clone!David will team up to eliminate the real person, paving the way for them to be together, but that’s not how it unfolds. Instead, a surprising twist occurs. David ends up killing John. He’s come to understand that the only individual who can rival him in every aspect is none other than himself. Intriguingly, he prefers the android over any human connection.

The story concludes with David and his clone sharing the same bed, fresh from an intimate encounter. The clone then spots a series of photos he took with John in a photo booth and queries whether David recognizes that man. David replies negatively and requests another round from the android instead. And so, the tale comes to an end.

All five new episodes of American Horror Stories are now available on Hulu as part of season 3B.
