AMC Networks’ FearFest 2024: Janelle Monae, marathons and more
As a longtime horror enthusiast who grew up on a steady diet of creepy classics and terrifying tales, I am absolutely thrilled about AMC Networks’ FearFest return in 2024! The lineup looks spine-tinglingly fantastic, with the addition of the multi-talented Janelle Monae as the official host adding a fresh, exciting twist.
The popular Halloween-themed programming event from AMC Networks, FearFest, returns once more, delivering a frightful feast for fans throughout the autumn season. For this year’s edition, the versatile artist and performer Janelle Monae has been selected as the official host of the longstanding event.
As a thrill-seeking gamer, I’m pumped to dive into over 700 hours of chilling horror content from iconic franchises, specials, series, and more! Whether you prefer linear TV or streaming options, there’s something terrifying for everyone. And if you’re a fan of all things horror like me, don’t forget to stay updated on the latest horror insights through Monae’s social media channels!
AMC+ subscribers are in for a treat with an exclusive collection of Monae’s “FearFest Favorites,” featuring movies like “Killer Klowns from Outer Space,” “Carrie,” and “Puppet Master” along with many other scary delights.
Janelle Monae’s affection for horror can be traced back to her early years, much like many others. She shared, “My enthusiasm for Halloween is deeply rooted in my identity. As a kid, my cousins and I would enjoy our favorite scary movies together, and while I would bleed from my nose with excitement, I would still smile. There’s an undeniable thrill in experiencing the chills that give me goosebumps.
What’s on the roster for FearFest in 2024? Let’s take a peek at some highlights:
- The Last Drive-In: FearFest: Friday the 13th premieres on AMC October 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Hosted by the incomparable Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, this double feature will include the first and second films in the legendary franchise, peppered with JB’s commentary and shenanigans. The special guest will be Adrienne King, Friday the 13th’s first final girl.
- New series The Midwich Cuckoos: Village of the Damned debuts Thursday, October 17 on AMC+. On an ordinary summer evening, the residents of Midwich, a small English village, all fall unconscious. After coming to, the residents discover something horrifying and unexplainable. Based on the excellent novel by John Wyndham, this will be Village of the Damned’s third incarnation. It was made into a film in 1960, and again in 1995 by John Carpenter.
- Joe Bob Briggs is back on October 25 with a new live special, Joe Bob’s Beelzebub Bash. The special will premiere on Shudder TV and AMC+ TV before it is available on demand October 27. The double feature has not been announced yet, but it’s described as “so devilish that they’ll need two special guests to handle the necessary pitchforks.”
Additionally, you can anticipate a selection of thrilling marathons, each featuring themes such as John Carpenter’s works, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Final Destination, and those by Stephen King.
