Amber Ruffin explains the lesson she learned when she was disinvited from WHCA dinner
Amber Ruffin has chosen not to perform at the White House Correspondents’ Association’s dinner, scheduled for later in May, following their board’s decision to rescind her invitation as the main entertainer.
According to an email sent on Saturday by WHCA President Eugene Daniels, who now hosts weekends at MSNBC, the organization’s board has decided unanimously to part ways with the comedian and reorient the event towards journalistic excellence instead of fostering political division, as reported by Politico.

Daniels will be chief Washington correspondent and a co-host of “The Weekend.”
Last week on a podcast, Ruffin stated that the Trump administration was perceived as being similar to a group of murderers. He also criticized their use of false equivalencies in the media, arguing it humanizes them unjustifiably. Furthermore, he expressed his refusal to mock both political parties at a dinner event. Additionally, the deputy chief of staff for Trump publicly rebuked the organization for inviting a mediocre comedian to the dinner and later referred to Ruffin as a contemptible, hate-filled comedian.
On Monday, Ruffin appeared as a guest on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” a program where she’s been a writer and performer since 2014.
During a conversation about an alleged bodega robbery, Meyers expressed his concern over how he was going to finish that joke when suddenly the comedian appeared on set, stating, ” frankly, I’m curious as to how you plan to wrap up that gag.
The host responded by saying he’d create a joke at the expense of the person who stole from the convenience store.
