Hannah Lowther, who sometimes fills in for Amber Davies in the musical Legally Blonde, has responded to rumors of a disagreement between them. She said it’s tiring to constantly be compared to Davies and made to seem like they’re rivals.
I was so upset to hear that one of my favorite performers had to stop during a performance of Legally Blonde! Apparently, they weren’t feeling well and had to leave the show mid-performance. It’s awful when that happens, and I really hope they feel better soon.
The star left the stage, revealing she was experiencing burnout. Her understudy, Hannah, then stepped in to play the leading role of Elle Woods.
Hannah, a TikTok star with 1.3 million followers and training from the Italia Conti Academy, is reportedly facing some behind-the-scenes friction. According to a recent Daily Mail+ report by Olivia Kemp, her colleagues believe she is significantly more talented than others.
Hannah recently used Instagram to deny rumors of a falling out, and Amber quickly showed her support with a comment.
Hannah shared a video of herself getting ready for a show, writing that she hopes for a future where women aren’t constantly compared to and pitted against each other.
I truly believe we should all be able to live our lives – whether that means achieving great things, simply being happy, or just existing – without constantly facing negativity and people trying to bring us down. It’s about creating a supportive world for everyone.
Alongside the clip, she added: ‘Exhausting actually…please be kind’, alongside a love-heart emoji.
After sharing her message, Amber immediately showed support for her replacement, writing ‘We’ve got each other always’ with a heart emoji.
This follows Amber’s recent update to fans about her health. She explained that taking on roles in The Great Gatsby, Strictly, and Legally Blonde – especially with little preparation time – had taken a toll on her well-being.
She shared a selfie with a long message explaining she was sick and taking antibiotics, meaning she wouldn’t be performing for a while. She didn’t mention what happened when she left the stage mid-performance, or say anything about Hannah.
After Amber announced she was leaving, TikTok flooded with comments. People also shared their support for Hannah, who normally plays Elle’s friend Margot in the musical inspired by the 2001 movie.
Amber posted on Instagram to let her fans know why she’s been away. She explained that after speaking with her doctor, continuing to perform while on antibiotics and trying to recover isn’t helping her health at all.
I’ve been dealing with a health issue for the past month, so I’ll need to take some time off from playing Elle Woods. It’s incredibly disappointing, but unfortunately, it’s necessary.
I’m worried that if I just keep trying to force myself through this, it will take much longer to recover. I really can’t wait to feel like myself again and be back performing! Thanks so much – Amber
She added in a separate post that she’s constantly reminding herself how quickly her body has changed – going from the physique required for ‘Gatsby’ to last-minute training for ‘Strictly,’ and then to the demands of ‘Elle.’ It’s clear her body is struggling to adjust to such rapid transformations.
I often have to remind myself that it’s okay to not feel well – we’re all human, after all. But it’s also true that there’s never a good time to be sick when you’re working on a musical theatre production.
I was absolutely blown away by Hannah Lowther’s performance today! Someone filmed a clip from the show and shared it on TikTok, and it was incredible – she seamlessly switched from playing Margot to Elle right there on stage, during the first act! Honestly, she saved the show and is a total superhero in my book!
During today’s performance, Amber Davies unfortunately fell ill, requiring Hannah Lowther to step in and play Elle instead of Margot. The poster expressed their appreciation for understudies and those who cover roles.
Following a Mail+ exclusive, it’s become clear that Hannah’s rising popularity and performances are increasingly hard for the other cast members to overlook.
People working behind the scenes are all professionals, but there’s occasionally some tension between the two performers. The attention an understudy has been getting online has naturally become a topic of conversation.
When Amber got sick last month and had to take time off from shows while recovering with antibiotics, Hannah filled in. The online response was swift and harsh.
One user praised Hannah’s incredible energy, and another contrasted her positively with Amber, saying Hannah consistently delivers while Amber doesn’t.
During a recent preview performance last month, Amber surprised the audience when she momentarily forgot part of the dance routine. She glanced across the stage at Hannah, seemingly to follow her movements and get back on track.
The video, captured by someone in the audience, quickly went viral online. Amber responded by posting a TikTok explaining the mistake, calling the performance ’embarrassing’.
She admitted she was caught off guard by the dance break and was visibly trying to follow Hannah’s moves. She joked that this awkward moment would likely be remembered and shared publicly for the rest of her professional life.
