Amazon Announces 5th Video Game TV Series of Historic Franchise
Amazon Prime Video unveiled its fifth high-cost television series based on a popular video game, following the trend of adapting blockbuster titles from the gaming industry. In recent years, TV shows and movies based on video games have gained popularity in Hollywood, as demonstrated by the successes of productions like The Last of Us, Arcane, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie on both big and small screens.
Amazon Studios has paved the way in the genre, approving streaming versions of renowned video game intellectual properties such as “Fallout” and “Mass Effect,” and achieving significant acclaim. The first season of “Fallout,” premiering on Prime Video in April 2024, was one of the most critically-acclaimed series of the year on the platform, garnering multiple Emmy nominations and solidifying Amazon’s streaming service as the go-to destination for high-profile gaming adaptations.
It appears that Amazon Prime Video shows no signs of slowing, as they’ve revealed plans for another exciting TV series based on a video game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating.

Wolfenstein
Amazon Prime Video has just announced a new streaming show titled “Wolfenstein,” which is the latest video game adaptation to be developed. This upcoming series is inspired by the popular shooter franchise, with its recent resurgence thanks to Machine Games and their releases – “Wolfenstein: The New Order” in 2014 and “Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus” in 2017.
According to Variety, it’s reported that Patrick Somerville, creator of “Station Eleven,” will develop the upcoming “Wolfenstein” series. The same production team responsible for Amazon Prime Video’s “Fallout” series is also slated to work on
Information regarding the specifics of the plot and its release date for the upcoming series has yet to be disclosed. A compelling tagline, embodying the enduring nature of the narrative, was provided: “‘The tale of vanquishing Nazis remains timeless.’” In these games, players assume the role of B.J. Blazkowicz, battling his way through an alternate reality where the Nazis emerged victorious from World War II.
Fallout
The first season of Fallout, a spin-off from Bethesda’s popular RPG series, demonstrated its ability to thrive beyond the realm of video games. It received numerous accolades and was nominated for 17 Emmys at the 2024 Emmy Awards. Consequently, it came as no shock that Amazon Prime Video swiftly approved a second season for this successful game-based TV series.
In the upcoming season, the creative duo Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet will once again take the helm. Many members from the Season 1 cast are expected to reprise their roles for another round of post-apocalyptic adventures.
The latest season has been wrapped up for production and will be released in December 2025. For season 2, viewers are promised a journey to the lawless desert oasis depicted in the video game “Fallout: New Vegas” – the wild and anarchic landscape of New Vegas.
Mass Effect
For quite some time now, enthusiasts have pleaded for a high-end TV adaptation based on the Mass Effect video game series by BioWare. As of June 2025, it appears that their wishes will be granted, as Amazon Prime Video has stepped forward to create this long-awaited project.
The upcoming “Mass Effect” television show is being overseen by Doug Jung, who previously wrote “Star Trek Beyond.” This means that the vast science fiction world from the games will be translated into live-action for the very first time.
Mass Effect could possibly become the next big television sensation in the realm of genre shows, comparable to the acclaimed series Game of Thrones. If it follows the narratives from the games, this show will unfold a tale of a galaxy teetering on the edge, where diverse alien species (including humans) are compelled to put aside their conflicts to face an impending cosmic disaster.
God of War
Initially unveiled in December 2022, it’s rumored that “God of War” will eventually bring PlayStation’s epic divine journey to Amazon Prime Video. For years, “God of War” has been a prominent figure in gaming across multiple console generations. However, it seems the adaptation process has taken some time to materialize.
In October 2024, following years of progress, it became public knowledge that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus departed the project. This decision came about due to multiple setbacks in finalizing Season 1’s scripts, as reported by Deadline.
According to reports, this development led Sony and Amazon Prime Video to assemble a fresh team of writers for the mythology-based series, which appears to reset the production process from scratch.
Warhammer
For quite some time, the previous Superman actor Henry Cavill has harbored a desire to join a Hollywood adaptation of Warhammer. After persistently working towards launching a project, Amazon Prime Video eventually fulfilled his wish. By December 2024, they officially declared that a TV series inspired by the renowned tabletop and video game franchise would progress on their streaming platform (according to Deadline).
Little is clear about the Warhammer TV series other than it will be set within the harsh, future-based universe of Warhammer 40,000, and Cavill will serve as executive producer and take on a leading role in it.
For some time now, since the project was first approved, there hasn’t been a lot of updates. However, recent events hint that progress is being made, as several well-known Warhammer writers have hinted that a streamer is working on something substantial within the Warhammer universe.
