Amanda Seyfried reacts to her ‘leaked audition tape’ for Wicked going viral
As a dedicated follower of Hollywood news and a lifelong fan of musical theater, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when reading about Amanda Seyfried’s recent adventures in showbiz. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the talented actress, from her humble beginnings on the small screen to her current status as a silver screen starlet.
Amanda Seyfried responded as her self-recorded audition video for the musical Wicked gained widespread popularity on the internet.
The actress, aged 39 and previously linked with auditions for the part of Galinda in the stage-to-screen version of the musical, explained her reasons behind shooting the recently uncovered video.
She clarified to People on Tuesday that the viral video of her singing “Popular” while dressed in a silver princess gown is not her leaked audition tape.
She mentioned that she wanted to set things straight and shared that although she did audition for Wicked later on, the initial video was just meant as a joke.
She clarified that she was merely joking or playing around when she recorded the video, which was shared in January 2023, and subsequently uploaded it.
Regarding her unsuccessful audition for the Mamma Mia! role, the actress, who spoke about her decision to leave Hollywood for a rural life, also expressed her views on the subject.

Seyfried mentioned that it seemed like it was around the time of the pandemic when she wore the dress resembling Glinda the Good Witch,” or simply, “Seyfried remembered it was probably during COVID while she donned a dress similar to Glinda’s.
‘I was doing a LancĂ´me shoot in Long Island City. Elizabeth Stewart [was] my stylist.’Â
She went on to say: ‘At that time, I hadn’t auditioned for Wicked, but I knew the production was imminent. So, I was just joking around and thought, “This dress perfectly suits Glinda.” Elizabeth responded with, “Go ahead,” and later shared it online.’
Seyfried expressed that she adores her stylist, but perhaps it would have been more appropriate not to share the photo. She clarified that it was simply an enjoyable, backstage-like snapshot from her LancĂ´me photoshoot.
As a passionate admirer, I myself confessed that the video I shared earlier was meant humorously. However, what followed was an unexpected turn â I decided to try out for the part of Glinda, a decision inspired by the character’s charm and appeal.
She acknowledged she gave it her all, undoubtedly so. Moreover, it was a lengthy journey, and each event unfolds as it should.
She later added that she thought the film was ‘fantastic.’Â
She also praised Grande, who ended up getting the role she auditioned for.Â
She excels at putting on quite a show, and my children can’t seem to get enough of the accompanying soundtrack; it’s always playing. Without a doubt, everything is falling into place just as it should.
Seyfried previously opened up about how difficult it was auditioning for the role of Glinda.Â
She mentioned during an interview with Backstage in July 2022 that her aspirations persist, as if she’s still trying out for the role in ‘Wicked.’
Reflecting on my journey, I found myself juggling a grueling audition process alongside my commitments for “The Dropout,” a testament to my dedication and passion for my craft.
On weekends, I found myself auditioning in person for the role of Glinda in the cinematic adaptation of Wicked – a part I desired so deeply that I was willing to say, “I understand I have a scene from The Dropout due on Tuesday. However, I’m ready to dedicate my Sunday to this opportunity.
‘I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life,’ she said.Â
From that encounter, Seyfried expressed that she discovered: ‘It seemed to demonstrate for me just how much progress I’ve made as a vocalist, and it fueled my desire to prove myself even more. Since Les Mis, I felt like I had to improve, to excel further.’
‘So whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I’m finally prepared.’Â
Seyfried also told People that she has been focused on preparing for her upcoming role.Â
A renowned actor from the big screen will soon appear alongside Sydney Sweeney in the forthcoming thriller-mystery titled “The Housemaid,” an adaptation of this year’s namesake novel.
She said that she has had to dye her hair more blonde for the role.Â
‘I was excited because I am pretty boring. I needed a change,’ she said about changing her look.Â
As I contemplated my next move, I found myself declaring, “It’s time for a change! This will be the film that sets me apart in a unique way.
She added that the new look also ‘really does help me get into character.’Â
