Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody SLAMMED for ‘tone deaf’ remarks about disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein
Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody are currently receiving criticism for comments perceived as insensitive regarding the fallen movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein.
39-year-old Seyfried and 45-year-old Brody shared their insights regarding the rumors surrounding Weinstein during their conversation on Variety’s Actors On Actors program about a month ago.
In a post on Variety’s Instagram, Seyfried expressed that she wasn’t fully aware of the extent of Weinstein’s misconduct, while Brody admitted he found Weinstein intimidating but hadn’t heard any sexual allegations against him until they were made public in 2017.
During the discussion, things got unexpected when Seyfried shared an experience she had with Weinstein in the past. Both Seyfried and Brody smiled and chuckled throughout.
In a moment of great surprise, she remembered feeling utterly amazed by Weinstein, whom she referred to as the dominant figure in the room, when he consented to join the premiere of her 2013 movie, Lovelace.
The actress shuttered as she remembered ‘giving him the biggest hug’ at the event.
In the midst of Harvey Weinstein’s high-profile rape and sexual assault trial in New York City, the Actors On Actors episode featuring Emily Seyfried and Sarah Brody was made available on June 9.
Two days later, Weinstein was convicted for sexually assaulting his ex-assistant, but acquitted of compelling oral sex with a teenage model. The judge called for a retrial on a separate charge of rape as the jury couldn’t agree unanimously on this accusation.
DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for both Seyfried and Brody for comment.

In a different phrasing,
1. One Instagram user commented, ‘This is anything but amusing, and their behavior in this situation is truly appalling.’
2. Another user chimed in, ‘Their laughter during that story is downright unsettling.’
It is widely doubted that the actors were unaware of the Weinstein allegations, a matter that some insiders in Hollywood have described as common knowledge.
It was asserted by one Instagram user that it’s common knowledge among Hollywood circles, while another fan accused Brody and Seyfried of being less than truthful about something.
The fan expressed their surprise, saying, ‘I find it hard to believe they “didn’t know” about this person since every actor I’ve encountered in Los Angeles, including myself, have heard tales about them. I moved here in 2008, and it seems everyone was aware; if someone claims they didn’t, then I suspect they might be dishonest.’
Nonetheless, numerous supporters of Variety defended Brody and Seyfried, commending them for their ‘authenticity’ throughout their discussion.
‘Love her honesty,’ said one fan of Seyfried’s Weinstein story.
During our conversation, the subject of Weinstein was brought up following Seyfried’s reference to an incident that occurred during the Sundance premiere of her movie Lovelace.
Brody recalled that in the year 2013, at a festival, Harvey Weinstein acquired the film ‘Lovelace’, where Seyfried portrays the real-life adult film star Linda Lovelace.
Additionally, he reminded her that Weinstein was present at a gathering during Sundance, suggesting instead that she narrate the account as she herself had experienced it.
As I stood there, I vividly recall the moment he pulled away. It was prior to when everyone acknowledged what we all suspected about him, yet here I was –
[Before the public admission of his true nature, I had already witnessed it.]
‘I knew [Weinstein] was scary, but I actually didn’t know…,’ he said.
‘[Didn’t know] to the extent,’ Seyfried added. ‘I didn’t know the extent.’

In a statement, Brody implied that he wasn’t aware of any sexual misconduct, yet it seemed as though, given Weinstein’s victims were females, such behavior was unlikely on his part.
‘I had heard, like, a few rumors,’ Seyfried admitted. ‘I see,’ Brody replied.
Later on, Seyfried recounted how she extended an invitation to Weinstein for the Sundance premiere of Lovelace.
Yes, I recall spotting him in a vehicle, and I exclaimed, “Harvey!” Said Seyfried, followed by a chuckle, before admitting, “Gosh, I can be such a fool.
She went on saying: ‘In slow motion, he lowered his window and I asked, “Will you visit Lovelace tomorrow?” To which he replied, “I have a flight early in the morning. What time is it?”‘
Seyfried said she told Weinstein the details and that he told her, ‘”I’ll make it there!”‘
At the time, Seyfried was thrilled that Weinstein had agreed to attend the premiere.
Then I turned to Abby, who remains my agent, and she exclaimed, “Wow, Amanda, that’s fantastic!
At the premier, just as promised, I made an appearance, and to my delight, I found myself becoming acquainted with the captivating Lovelace during the festivities.
Or:
True to his word, I graced the premiere, and serendipitously, I struck up a rapport with the alluring Lovelace amidst the festival’s excitement.
According to Seyfried, Weinstein said he had purchased something. In response, she embraced him wholeheartedly and expressed her gratitude with a similar statement, exclaiming something along the lines of, “Oh my goodness, thank you!
Seyfried reenacted the hug for Brody by hugging herself in her seat.
Later on, she discovered that the distribution rights were bought by Bob Weinstein’s company, Radius-TWC, which is his brother, Harvey Weinstein’s firm.

The aspect of her encounter with Weinstein that stood out the most to her was the palpable ‘thrill’ or ‘buzz’ she felt during the premiere event.
She remembered, “The air was electric with everyone’s enthusiasm. And I embraced him tightly.”
Or
She reminisced, “The whole room was filled with energy, and I gave him a hearty hug.
‘I’m like, you know, “Harvey bought it.” And he was like the big papa of the room.’
Seyfried stopped mid-story to exhale and dramatically wipe Weinstein’s ‘hug’ off of her.
She went on, stating, “That’s just how things were. For an independent project to succeed, everyone relied on his enthusiasm because that’s what propelled it forward.
‘Yeah, yeah. Wild,’ said Brody. ‘I remember him at the party.’
After that, Seyfried playfully interjected with a question, “So, where might Weinstein be these days?” Then, Brody chimed in with a touch of sarcasm, “Oh, and I wonder what he’s up to now.
‘I’m just kidding,’ said Seyfried. ‘So f***ed up.’
Brody then continued his story about seeing Weinstein at the film’s after-party.
I recall seeing him moving about at the gathering somewhat playfully, and overhearing some hushed remarks such as, “He’s right behind you.” However, our interaction was limited; I didn’t have an opportunity to give him a warm embrace.
Seyfried stated that Hollywood has become a more secure environment since Weinstein, who was described as acting like an autocratic ruler.
‘He set the tone. He was the number one,’ Brody said.
Seyfried added, “He was feared by others as well.” He also noted, “When someone inspires fear, it often leads to unfavorable outcomes.
