Amanda Holden’s most complained about dresses: Britain’s Got Talent judge’s raciest ensembles revealed – including one that prompted 600 Ofcom reports

It’s nearly time for Britain’s Got Talent auditions again, when performers of all kinds come from across the UK hoping to impress the judges and the public.

But firstly they will have to impress judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, KSI and Amanda Holden.

Amanda turned 55 this week and has been a judge on the show since its start in 2007.

And over the years she has become well known for one thing in particular – her racy outfits.

The TV star consistently wows audiences with her stylish outfits, confidently showcasing her figure. However, her daring dresses have also generated numerous complaints to Ofcom.

In 2020, she shared that ITV executives created a committee to assess whether her dresses were too revealing, after receiving 235 complaints to Ofcom regarding a particularly low-cut gown.

Despite the criticism, Amanda has consistently defended her style choices. She’s explained that she collaborates closely with her stylist to create each outfit and maintains that she’s loved everything she’s worn on the show since it began in 2007.

She told Closer magazine: ‘What you see on TV, I really love.

People often bring up the Ofcom complaints, but I don’t worry about them because all my outfits are checked before I go on air. I believe fashion should be fun and expressive!

Amanda has faced criticism for her outfits on the talent show before, and this isn’t the first time she’s had to explain her style choices to viewers.

In 2022, she explained that fashion should be about expressing yourself and not being afraid to try new things. She believes it’s important to be bold and have fun with your style, because playing it safe is just too dull.

She also pointed out that her colleague Alesha Dixon, 47, doesn’t receive the same criticism for her revealing outfits, and found the number of complaints about her own attire to be strange.

But what have been Amanda’s most Ofcom complaint looks?

Spiderweb dress – 9 complaints

Let me tell you, even something seemingly subtle can cause a stir! Back in 2019, I remember Amanda wearing this incredible, but quite sheer, web-like dress on stage. It actually only generated nine complaints to Ofcom, which honestly surprised me! It just goes to show you, what one person finds daring, another might find a bit much – and it doesn’t always cause a massive uproar.

The 48-year-old judge wore a see-through dress that revealed a lot of skin, and many viewers considered it unsuitable.

Although the dress wasn’t revealing, a delicate, embroidered cobweb covered the star’s chest, which then transitioned into a beautiful arrangement of flowers.

Plunging blue gown – 34 complaints

Amanda received further complaints to Ofcom after wearing a dress designed by Saiid Kobeisy in 2019, continuing a pattern from earlier in the series.

I was so surprised to hear about the complaints regarding the dress! It had a pretty low neckline, and apparently, that generated 34 complaints when she wore it. It really was a striking outfit, but some people clearly weren’t happy with the revealing look.

Plunging white dress – 72

Last year, Amanda confidently presented herself on stage wearing a striking, custom-made white dress by Saint Hendrix.

According to The Mirror, Ofcom received 72 complaints about a presenter’s outfit – a low-cut top with silver clips under the breasts.

The publication was told that they were deemed ‘too revealing for a family show’.

Sparkling sheer dress – 90

In 2016, she earned an additional 90 points from Ofcom thanks to a stunning performance in a sheer, sparkly dress worn over a black leotard with a unique keyhole detail.

Amanda made a striking entrance onto the stage, wearing a revealing outfit that showed off her legs and a glimpse of cleavage.

Despite concerns raised, Ofcom chose not to launch a full investigation, stating that the women’s clothing did not violate the rules for UK broadcasters.

The organization stated that Amanda’s outfit was appropriate and wouldn’t have surprised most people watching.

According to a spokesperson, the dresses were suitable for the judges and did not present them in a sexual manner, as reported by The Sun.

Lace corset dress – 136

I have to say, the reaction when Amanda returned to the show in 2020 was intense! It really kicked off when she wore that gorgeous plum dress by Suzanne Neville – it was a beautiful lace corset style, but it definitely showed off her legs, and that’s when the complaints to Ofcom started going through the roof.

Of the 896 reported complaints made to Ofcom about the episode, 136 of these were about her dress.

Amanda responded to the criticism by posting on Instagram that she was surprised and confused by the negative reaction.

She mentioned on Instagram that they received 896 comments that night, and only 136 of them were about this particular dress.

There are definitely bigger and more pressing issues to focus on, don’t you think? It’s really frustrating that this is still happening.

 Celia Kritgarioti gown – 235

Honestly, things got a little tricky later on when I wore this stunning navy dress by Celia Kritharioti. It was an off-the-shoulder style with a pretty deep V-neck, and it ended up getting some complaints with Ofcom – apparently, it showed a bit too much leg! It’s always a challenge finding that balance between feeling fabulous and keeping everyone happy, you know?

A revealing dress worn by Holden sparked 235 complaints, with some viewers claiming they could see her nipples.

You know, watching Amanda on stage was just inspiring! She absolutely owned the moment, looking completely self-assured and radiant in this gorgeous midnight blue outfit. It really suited her and she just glowed!

She later addressed claims of a wardrobe mishap, playfully questioning on Instagram, “Seriously?! Who has nipples so close to their neckline?”

She told The Sun that before going on air, a team of people now inspects her outfits, even examining her chest.

A team of experts is involved. They’re incredibly talented and often visit to offer feedback, including the producer who recently told me everything was looking good.

She mentioned seeing something under her clothing, and people mistakenly thought it was her nipple. It turned out to be the underwire of her bra.

My husband compares them to the studs on football boots, but that’s probably an odd detail to share. Anyway, they’ve formed a committee to handle it, with someone appointed as its leader.

2017 – 663 complaints

A bold gown Julien Macdonald designed, worn on Britain’s Got Talent in 2017, received an impressive 663 complaints to Ofcom, making it the most complained-about dress that year.

The long dress had a very low neckline and a large opening that extended from the front to the lower back, sparking outrage among viewers who considered it unsuitable for viewing.

Honestly, I was shocked when people started complaining about what she wore – it was iconic! They apparently flooded Ofcom with hundreds of complaints, can you believe it? But even with all that noise, Ofcom just…did nothing! They didn’t even bother to look into it. It’s outrageous, honestly. She looked amazing, and they should have appreciated it instead of trying to censor her style!

Ofcom acknowledged the dress could have upset some viewers watching a family show, but they didn’t believe it was excessively inappropriate for most people.

During the interview, the actress mentioned she’d been getting unwanted attention about her breasts for years. She then jokingly suggested insuring them and even giving them their own talk show.

Amanda shared a story about an accidental exposure to Piers Morgan. She explained that while visiting his home for dinner and chatting with his son, something unexpectedly ‘popped out’.

In June 2024, Amanda responded to criticism about her clothing by confidently showing off her figure in a revealing outfit.

Amanda playfully responded to criticism about her outfit by suggesting it was now judge Bruno Tonioli’s turn to be revealing. This came after she received numerous complaints from viewers who thought she had accidentally exposed herself.

She shared a photo of Bruno Tonioli wearing an unbuttoned white shirt and joked in the caption, ‘#NippleGate but for once… it’s not me [laughing face emoji]’.
