Amanda Holden has hit back at Ofcom complaints over her daring outfits on Britain’s Got Talent.

On the popular ITV series Britain’s Got Talent, the judge at age 54 frequently captures attention with her exceptionally stylish wardrobe choices.

She often wears striking outfits as she stands with Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli during their judging duties.

Despite drawing controversy with over a thousand complaints made to Ofcom over her appearance through the years, Amanda has since dismissed the criticism with confidence.

Amanda stated that she collaborates closely with her personal stylist to design each of her looks, and emphasized that she adores every ensemble she’s donned on the program since it first aired in 2007.

She told Closer magazine: ‘What you see on TV, I really love. 

Regarding the frequent queries about Ofcom complaints, it’s important to clarify that all outfits for the show are inspected before I step out of my dressing room. As a result, I’m always reassured and not concerned.

‘I think people should have fun with fashion!’

On more than one occasion, Amanda has taken a stand to justify her fashion decisions during the talent contest, following criticism from certain spectators.

2022 saw her expressing that fashion is all about stepping out of one’s comfort zone. She encourages everyone to add some excitement and a touch of boldness to their style, as she finds routine and safety rather dull.

She noted that Alesha Dixon, who is 46 years old and her co-star, rarely faces criticism for her revealing outfits. Instead, she found the amount of complaints about this to be quite unusual.

On Britain’s Got Talent, the TV celebrity frequently makes headlines with their daring fashion statements, which spark lively discussions among the show’s viewers. Regularly, Amanda finds herself defending against the criticism that arises.

During the 2017 semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, a bold dress designed by Julien Macdonald generated an astounding 663 complaints to Ofcom.

The long gown dipped low to her naval, featuring an opening that extended to the base of her spine. However, this style sparked criticism from some viewers who labeled it as ‘improper’.

Although the expensive £11,000 outfit led to numerous complaints from viewers to Ofcom, the regulatory body chose not to launch an investigation into the matter.

In simpler terms, Ofcom stated that although the dress might be offensive to certain viewers given it’s a family program, it would generally align with the expectations of most viewers.

In 2019, another of Amanda’s dresses on the show sparked nine Ofcom complaints.

The judge donned a dress featuring intricate spiderweb patterns across the chest, which some viewers found inappropriate, prompting nine complaints from the viewing audience.

Yet, it seemed Amanda found humor in the situation. She humorously posted on Instagram, referring to a water bottle on the judges’ table as a ‘stand-in nipple cover’.

On the subsequent evening, she caused additional complaints to be filed with Ofcom as she confidently showcased herself in a dress designed by Saiid Kobeisy from Lebanon.

The following night, she attracted even more complaints to Ofcom by flaunting her style in a gown designed by the talented Lebanese designer, Saiid Kobeisy.

In another controversy, the regulator said the dress received 34 complaints relating to her dress.

In the October 2020 broadcast, Amanda dazzled yet again by donning a Suzanne Neville gown featuring a lace-adorned corset top, accentuating her well-tone legs.

Among the 896 grievances lodged with Ofcom concerning that particular episode, a significant 136 centered around Amanda’s attire. Interestingly, Amanda expressed her puzzlement over the uproar caused by her outfit choice.

She mentioned, on Instagram, that only a small number of 136 complaints were received about the dress, compared to the total of 896 comments or messages they supposedly received that evening.

As a committed follower, I find myself pondering over this thought: Aren’t there far more pressing and significant matters that deserve our attention in the written word? It’s left me puzzled as to why this particular topic continues unabated.

2020 found me donning a stylish off-the-shoulder navy gown by Celia Kritharioti, featuring a V-shaped neckline. It seemed this fashion choice of mine sparked an increase in complaints to Ofcom.

Amanda faced a total of 235 complaints, yet she vigorously responded to the criticism with another heartfelt Instagram post.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but gush over the fact that she’s been slaying it on the 2025 season of Britain’s Got Talent with her fearless, trendsetting ensembles! Rest assured, nothing will deter her from staying true to her unique style, not even the occasional criticism.
