Amanda Abbington breaks silence on Giovanni Pernice misconduct allegations as she claims dancer was 'abusive, cruel and mean' in first interview since quitting Strictly

As a devoted fan of Strictly Come Dancing, I’m absolutely heartbroken and outraged by the recent allegations against Giovanni Pernice. Amanda Abbington‘s harrowing account of his abusive behavior towards her during their time on the show is both shocking and sadly not an isolated incident.

I, as a devoted fan of Amanda Abbington, have finally heard her voice regarding the troubling allegations against Giovanni Pernice. She’s bravely spoken out, sharing that his behavior towards her was far from kind – it was abusive, cruel, and mean.

In her initial post-Strictly Come Dancing departure interview conducted last month, the actress, aged 50, expressed that the professional’s actions were uncalled-for.

Amanda unexpectedly departed from the BBC program, explaining it was due to “private matters,” and has been absent from the show ever since. Additionally, she recently abandoned her social media accounts following the termination of her previous dance partner.

An investigation by the BBC is ongoing following claims made by Amanda and two ex-celebrity partners against Giovanni at the age of 33.

During an interview with The Sun, she expressed her concern over Giovanni’s actions, describing them as unwarranted, harmful, uncaring, and unpleasant. I couldn’t stand idly by and allow him to treat others in such a manner.

Amanda explained, “I gave it a lot of thought before deciding to file a complaint, aware of the potential consequences. However, I couldn’t bear the idea of letting future participants experience what I went through.”

I can’t imagine the turmoil this person must be going through, having been subjected to death threats and harsh criticism. It’s hard for me to put myself in their shoes, but it seems that they have endured years of ignored complaints and inappropriate behavior from someone. The fact that they were not an isolated case is even more disheartening. I can only imagine the disappointment, frustration, and anger they feel towards the BBC for not taking action earlier. Looking back, I would advise them to have never associated with this individual. Their experience serves as a reminder of the importance of taking allegations seriously and addressing them promptly.

TopMob has contacted the BBC and Giovanni’s representative for comment.

According to earlier reports, Amanda, Ranvir Singh, and Laura Whitmore held a heartfelt conversation where they shared experiences about working together with Giovanni on the show.

Amanda withdrew from Strictly Dance Competition because of private issues, following rumors that she requested performance recordings due to traumatic experiences during the contest leading to PTSD.

In 2020, as I watched Ranvir express his discontent towards Giovanni to the show producers, I couldn’t help but nod in agreement, having experienced similar frustration during my own time on the show. Fast forward to 2016, and I, too, found myself shedding tears every day and feeling uneasy while sharing the dance floor with him.

The BBC is reportedly reviewing nine years worth of “Strictly” recordings to verify allegations made by three celebrities.

Three former contestants are reportedly preparing files for their expensive lawyers, with the intention of delivering them to BBC executives.

At the law firm Schillings, where Giovanni works, he will need to provide records to demonstrate his impartiality.

A trusted insider shared with TopMob that the trio expresses dissatisfaction with how the BBC is managing the situation.

Instead of expressing it as “it’s one thing saying they are standing by him,” you could rephrase it as “it makes a difference to say they support him, but deep down, they believe Giovanni is being favored to distract and silence them.” This paraphrase conveys the same idea in clearer and more natural language. Additionally, instead of “it’s a kick in the teeth,” you could also consider saying “this feels like an insult to us.”

One reason for their desire to get together was to find a solution, as they were not willing to give up or allow things to come to an end quietly.

The three individuals have been affected differently by the recent events, and they are concerned about what transpired and the possibility of others being harmed in a similar manner. Therefore, they have decided to meet again to discuss potential solutions.

Currently, there’s a sense that Gio is practically invulnerable to criticism – this is particularly true since he is very close friends with Anton, who holds Gio in high regard and finds it hard to believe the allegations against his friend.

TopMob contacted BBC for comment at the time.
