Enter Alyssa, exit Leon?
Outbreak) guiding young Grace through the dimly lit halls of the Wrenwood Hotel.
The four-minute trailer shifts focus from a general overview to gameplay, allowing players to guide Grace as she traces her mother’s path. This latest Resident Evil 9 trailer, both literally and metaphorically, focuses on Alyssa. However, it concludes suddenly, with Grace letting out a terrified scream, suggesting her mother may have met an untimely end.

New Resident Evil 9 trailer is its most intense yet
As a gaming enthusiast, let me share my take on the newest Resident Evil 9 trailer. Beyond the eerie settings and jaw-dropping character designs, what truly caught my attention was the intriguing dynamic between Grace and Alyssa. The initial scene depicts a diligent Grace, burning the midnight oil on her laptop, clearly showing signs of a relentless work ethic. Just then, in swoops Alyssa, also a hard-working soul, adding another layer to their shared passion for productivity – all under the same roof.
As Grace continues to focus on her laptop, she subtly signals Alyssa’s approach by raising her hand, without looking up. This gesture, made from across the room, is a comforting sight amidst an unsettling atmosphere, hinting at the strong bond they share. It further implies that the impending loss of Alyssa may have severe impacts on Grace’s mental well-being.
In the third minute, Alyssa is depicted holding Grace’s hands once more, attempting to calm her down as she experiences a panic attack. This unexpectedly tender moment stands out in a series that typically leans towards campy horror. The directing style of Requiem bears a closer resemblance to productions by Naughty Dog or Remedy Entertainment.
Capcom anticipates that Resident Evil 9 will mark the beginning of a fresh chapter for survival horror games. Notably, Koshi Nakanishi, who has worked on Resident Evil 7 – widely regarded as the most terrifying installment so far – is directing this upcoming project.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that during a recent Q&A session, Producer Masato Kumazawa revealed some intriguing insights about Resident Evil 9. He described the game’s tone as “compelling fear,” suggesting that it will lean more towards horror and tension rather than action-packed sequences. This promises an immersive and nerve-wracking experience for us gamers!

Leon Kennedy skips yet another Resident Evil 9 trailer
In the latest trailer for Resident Evil 9, fans might be disheartened to see that Leon Kennedy, their beloved zombie-slaying swashbuckler, does not make an appearance. Yet whispers abound that he is among the main characters you’ll control in this new installment.
In the game Resident Evil: Extinction’s sequel (Resident Evil: Degeneration), players can explore a decayed Raccoon City, a city that Mr. Kennedy is well acquainted with. Although it seems like he might reappear, game director Nakanishi hints otherwise. In his words, “Leon Kennedy’s return without the courage and bravery we’re used to isn’t something anyone wants to see.
Nakanishi’s statement doesn’t explicitly deny that Leon will appear in Resident Evil 9. It seems Capcom is keeping the details under wraps for now. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long before they can delve into the newest installment of the survival horror series.
Resident Evil Requiem launches on Feb. 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
