Oh my gosh, Harry’s back! After what felt like forever – three whole years! – he’s finally released his fourth album, and it’s called ‘Kiss All The Time,’ but we all just call it KISSCO, you know? I’ve been waiting so long, and it’s everything I dreamed of. He really disappeared for a while, but now he’s back and better than ever!
While Taylor Swift often hides clues and secrets in her music for fans to discover, Harry Styles‘ album is more focused on looking back at his own life and emotions.
Before his album came out, Harry shared the stories behind each song. He talked about a particularly emotional night dancing in Berlin where he felt truly liberated, and also explained his decision to stop shaving his mustache.
Many listeners were curious about the identity of ‘Carla’ in the song ‘Carla’s Song.’ Harry clarified that she’s simply a friend, but explained that it was through her introduction to Paul Simon that the core idea for the album really began to take shape.
After a three-year break from public life, Harry has been making the most of his time, saying ‘yes’ to new experiences. He’s traveled to Italy and Berlin, completed marathons, enjoyed bike rides around London, and even danced at Glastonbury.
The new album delves into Harry’s struggle to balance being a regular person with the demands of fame, and how much he values everyday life and human connection.
Harry Styles recently told Zane Lowe that, for him, what truly defines an artist is allowing people to see their everyday, human side.
The album begins with the song “Aperture,” but interestingly, it was the final song Harry completed for the entire record.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Harry described his song ‘Aperture’ as a fitting beginning to his current artistic phase, explaining that it captures the feeling of suddenly realizing you were wrong about something.
That song is about how admitting what you don’t understand allows you to grow and learn – it’s about making room for new insights.
After the song “Aperture,” the album includes these tracks: “American Girls,” “Ready, Steady, Go!,” “Are You Listening Yet?,” “Taste Back,” “The Waiting Game,” “Season 2 Weight Loss,” “Coming Up Roses,” “Pop,” “Dance No More,” “Paint by Numbers,” and finally, “Carla’s Song.”
Crying on the dancefloor
Having always been the main performer, Harry took his time off to experience life as an audience member, particularly enjoying the nightlife and club scene in Berlin.
He recently shared on BBC Radio 2 that the most valuable part of this experience has been connecting with people and seeing things from the audience’s perspective, which is different from what he’s used to.
Honestly, lately it’s really hit me just how incredible it is to be part of a crowd, feeling the energy of live music together. There’s something truly special about being shoulder-to-shoulder with people, lost in the moment and dancing – it’s a feeling you just can’t replicate!
It’s been a lovely reminder that whether I’m performing or just attending shows, everyone shares a common purpose.
“Dance No More” was written after a deeply emotional experience the artist had while dancing in Berlin, where he found himself unexpectedly moved to tears on the dance floor. This personal moment served as the core inspiration for the song.
He recalled his first night out in Berlin, describing a feeling of incredible freedom and safety while standing on the dance floor.
It was one of those moments where I just let go. I stood there, arms raised, eyes closed, and suddenly, tears were flowing. But it wasn’t sadness, it was… incredible. I felt so intensely alive, completely present and overwhelmed with feeling. It was a truly powerful experience.
Who is Fox?
During a song in his album Dance No More, Harry Styles can be heard saying ‘Fox’ at the end of a line. He explained this was a tribute to the son of his producer, Kid Harpoon, whose name is Fox.
Harry shared that the man was always envious because they’d used his mother’s name, Jenny, in their song, ‘Canyon Moon.’ He said the man was playing football and jokingly asked if he could get his own name in the song if he hit the crossbar.
‘And he hit the crossbar so then I was like we have got to put his name in his song.’
The moustache is here to stay
Some fans speculated that the title ‘Season 2 Weight Loss’ was a nod to the growing trend of celebrities using drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro. However, Harry clarified that it actually refers to his own personal comeback, and the return of his mustache.
Recently, Harry Styles has been seen sporting a beard, but during his Love On Tour performances, he often had a clean-shaven, youthful appearance with his bold and stylish outfits.
He explained the song’s meaning, saying it was essentially the core idea behind the entire album.
It’s similar to how a popular Netflix show will often feature cast members who’ve clearly prioritized their health by the second season – they all have nutritionists and trainers and look fantastic. It’s like a ‘Season 2 Weight Loss’ transformation.
It felt strange to return to the same role, but looking physically different – like suddenly having more defined cheekbones. That’s how it was for me; I felt like I was returning as a more confident and improved version of myself.
And this stronger version includes his moustache.
He thought about how his look had changed over time and explained that whenever he had time off from touring, he’d grow a mustache. But when he returned to performing, he’d shave it off, which made him feel like he wasn’t presenting the image people were used to seeing.
I wasn’t focused on changing my appearance, but rather on whether you’ll accept me as I grow and evolve, or if you only like me because I’ve been fulfilling a certain expectation. I want to know if you’ll embrace the person I become, not just the one you’re used to.
Who is Carla?
The final track of the album is Carla’s Song.
Okay, so everyone thought we’d get another song like ‘Matilda,’ right? But honestly, ‘Carla’s Song’ is SO much more than that. It’s, like, a really personal thing for Harry, I can feel it. Apparently, it’s a tribute to this older song, ‘Cathy’s Song’ by Simon & Garfunkel. It’s just…it’s beautiful and clearly means a lot to him!
Harry reflected on the song ‘Carla,’ explaining that it unexpectedly became the heart of the record for him. He felt it provided answers to many things he was pondering.
Carla, a friend of the singer, inspired the song. She told the singer about discovering Paul Simon while they were at a friend’s house, killing time before heading to a party.
Harry then played “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” He described the experience as if he were witnessing someone suddenly see vibrant colors or experience something magical for the first time.
In that moment, it struck me that creating music is an investment in something lasting—songs that can outlive us all.
I played her ‘Cathy’s Song,’ one of my favorites by Simon & Garfunkel, and that’s how the song became known as ‘Carla’s Song.’
He explained what motivates him to create music, saying, ‘The best thing is when someone connects with a song you’ve made and it becomes a lasting part of their life. That’s really all I hope for.’
Marriage
Oh my gosh, when Harry talked about ‘American Girls,’ it totally broke my heart! He said it felt really lonely writing it because all three of his best friends got married last year, and he was still, you know, single. It just felt so raw and honest, and I could feel what he was going through. It’s like, he’s so happy for them, but also…a little sad for himself, and it just hits different knowing that’s where the song came from.
He described ‘American Girl’ as being fundamentally about finding a life partner and getting married, emphasizing the special connection you feel when you meet the right person.
Seeing them go through it showed us it wasn’t easy or without potential dangers.
He shared that a recent experience led him to seriously consider his future, specifically his desire to marry and have a family. This comes as his relationship with Zoë Kravitz, 37, continues to grow stronger.
I completely disconnect from everything, and then I carefully choose what’s important enough to reintroduce into my life. It’s about figuring out what I truly want to focus on.
If you’re constantly on the road and always busy with things, you don’t have time to make careful choices.
I took some time to really think about what I want my life to be like in five years, and what steps I need to take to get there. I don’t want to end up alone and regretting not having pursued my goals.
I’m looking for a meaningful life filled with strong, positive connections and close friendships.
I really want a family, and realizing that helped me focus on what I needed to do to make it possible. I understood I couldn’t just wait for it to happen – I needed to actively create the opportunity.
The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker and Zoe were first spotted holding hands in August 2025
Last September, photos surfaced of Zoe and Harry with Zoe’s father, Lenny, leading people to believe their relationship was becoming more committed.
Okay, seriously, he gets it. He was talking about why having the right person in your life is everything, and it totally resonated. He said they should push you to be the best version of yourself, hold you to that standard, you know? It’s not just about accepting flaws – which, don’t get me wrong, understanding is amazing – but it’s about knowing you’re capable of more than just settling. They should see your potential and help you reach it, not just be okay with where you are. It’s like, I want to be better, and they should want that for me too! It’s just… perfect.
‘So when you challenge me on something. It’s a gift to me, actually.’
Being ordinary
Much of the album explores Harry’s feelings about fame and adjusting to life after a long and demanding tour. He’s dealing with what it means to be recognized publicly after needing some time to himself.
“Are You Listening Yet” is the oldest track on the album. Zane Lowe has described its sound as resembling the thoughts of someone on tour, lost in thought and trying to make sense of things.
Harry explained that the song came about when he was heavily involved with performing shows in New York. He felt exhausted and unhealthy at the time, and the song is a response to those feelings.
Meanwhile Paint By Numbers begins: ‘Oh what a gift to be noticed but it’s nothing to do with me’.
Harry explained that when he began working on this record, he was still caught up in the success of his previous work and eager to start something new. He particularly liked the opening line, which expressed gratitude for recognition while also emphasizing that it wasn’t about personal achievement – he simply enjoyed the feeling.
While taking some time away from work, the celebrity tried to run the Tokyo and Berlin Marathons without drawing attention to himself. He’s often said that he loves running because it allows him to completely clear his head and concentrate on a single activity.
‘Well, the main thing is that you’re always moving. You can turn a corner wherever,’ he said.
He explained to Runner’s World that people often do a double-take – they’re not immediately sure it’s him – and by the time they realize it, he’s already passed by.
