All the best shows still to come to Netflix in 2025 – including a thriller with “unexpected twists”

This year, Netflix has truly stolen my heart with their outstanding television productions, from the heartrending “Adolescence” to the captivating “Forever.” Even though the finale of “Squid Game” was a subject of debate, it was still a must-watch for me, as I was eager to see how the thrilling K-drama would conclude its gripping storyline.

As the year draws to a close and we anticipate what’s left on the streaming platform in 2025, it appears that the high-quality content is showing no signs of abatement. Coming up, we have an innovative adaptation of Agatha Christie’s work, promised to be “smart, grandiose, and swift”, along with the resurgence of a Japanese drama filled with heart-racing suspense. Furthermore, don’t forget about Netflix’s upcoming British thriller, Hostage, featuring Suranne Jones, who was remarkable in Vigil.

Audiences can anticipate a mix of fantasies, romantic comedies, and more on Netflix, as their top television offerings reach their climax. This grand finale also marks the bittersweet end to one of their most popular and cherished franchises, Stranger Things.

What to Read Next

If you’re eager, so are we! Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting content coming to Netflix for the remainder of this year.

Wednesday, season 2

Get ready to click your fingers again, because it won’t be long before we see Wednesday back on Netflix once more.

Based on the summary, another spine-tingling supernatural enigma is approaching. In other words, viewers can eagerly anticipate Wednesday (played by Jenna Ortega), sporting her symbolic monocle, navigating through it all with just her dry humor and Thing as her trusty sidekick… or hand.

As a devoted admirer, I must confess that Emma Myers, from A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, might find herself in my company. However, don’t anticipate Wednesday Addams to exude joy at this turn of events – not on the surface at least.

On Netflix, you can start streaming the first half of “Wednesday” season 2 beginning August 6th. The second part will premiere on September 3rd. If you’re eager to catch up, the entire first season of “Wednesday” is currently available for viewing.

Hostage

In this imagined storyline, the spouse of the British prime minister, Abigail Dalton (played by Suranne Jones), gets abducted. Simultaneously, the visiting French president finds himself in a tricky situation being extorted. Consequently, both political figures are left grappling with extraordinary dilemmas.

In a brutal competition where their political careers, as well as their very lives, are at stake, can they join forces to expose the conspiracy that endangers them both?

The streamer promises viewers “unexpected twists and turns”, in this tense five-part series.

Hostage will be available to stream on Netflix from 21 August.

Black Rabbit

In this fresh drama, the pressure cooker atmosphere intensifies for restaurant mogul Jake Friedken, portrayed by Jude Law, as he decides to bring his wayward ex-musician sibling Vince (Jason Bateman from Ozark) back into the thriving family enterprise in New York City.

Beyond merely bringing up past traumas, Vince’s past also carries fresh hazards that could dismantle everything they’ve achieved together. The limited series, titled “Black Rabbit,” was initially announced in 2022 and is the work of Zach Baylin.

You can stream “Black Rabbit” on Netflix starting from September 18.

Nobody Wants This, season 2

Following their captivating first appearance, Kristen Bell and Adam Brody return to portray the unconventional duo Joanne and Noah in the second season of “Nobody Wants This“.

As a devoted listener, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the unique bond between the Rabbi and the Agnostic Podcast Host in their first season. They overcame all obstacles to sustain their unconventional relationship, leaving us on the edge of our seats. Now, the question remains: will they dare to advance to new heights? With that dramatic finale, I can’t wait to tune in and discover what happens next!

Nobody Wants This season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from 23 October.

The Witcher, season 4

In the fourth season of “The Witcher,” a fresh chapter unfolds, and it’s not just about Henry Cavill’s Kikimora character that’s new. Following a devastating loss at the hands of Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) which also resulted in Geralt losing Ciri (Freya Allen), viewers can expect to encounter a different version of Geralt this time around.

The powerful threesome consisting of Geralt, Yennefer (played by Anya Chalotra), and Ciri are compelled to tread distinct paths amidst the turmoil of the ongoing war on the continent. Can they eventually reunite and find their way back together in the future?

The Witcher season 4 will be available to stream on Netflix later this year.

Squid Game: The Challenge, season 2

Squid Game may be over, but the games have only just begun.

In late 2021, the second season of “Squid Game: The Challenge” is scheduled to commence. This reality competition series will introduce numerous fresh competitors who will don their iconic green and white tracksuits and engage in intense combat with the ultimate goal of claiming victory.

Squid Game: The Challenge season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix 4 November.

Alice in Borderland, season 3

If you’re still craving thrilling fictional survival games since Squid Game has concluded, here’s some great news: Alice in Borderland is set to return for a new season!

Even though Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) believed he had left behind the chaotic landscape of Borderland, his wife Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) gets kidnapped, forcing him back into the game. To rescue her, he joins forces with new companions, venturing into the unexplored Joker stage in an attempt to not only save Usagi but also return to their original world.

Alice in Borderland will be available to stream on Netflix from 25 September .

Stranger Things, season 5

Following a prolonged anticipation, the acclaimed Netflix series “Stranger Things” will draw to a close in a gradual manner, wrapping up its storyline over three captivating episodes.

The Hawkins group, who have always been misfits, need to unite powerfully once more for a decisive confrontation with Vecna, aiming to halt the Upside Down’s advance. Despite taking a beating, they understand that Vecna won’t stay hidden long. The impending battle is ominous, and even darker, more lethal forces seem ready to emerge.

Do they have what it takes to beat their enemies, and all come out unscathed?

The first part of Stranger Things season 5 will start streaming on Netflix from November 26th, followed by the second part on December 25th. The final episode will be released on December 31st. If you haven’t seen seasons 1-4 yet, they are currently available to watch.

The Seven Dials Mystery

Get ready for a delightful and engaging armchair mystery set in England in 1925. This fresh take on the classic Agatha Christie narrative, as described by Netflix, follows a grand house party that spirals into turmoil when an innocent practical joke takes a deadly turn.

In this captivating mystery series, the curious character Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent (played by Mia McKenna-Bruce) spearheads the investigation. As she gradually untangles the threads of the murder case, she unwittingly sets in motion events that will transform her own life as well. The talented ensemble cast includes Helena Bonham Carter from ‘Nolly’ and Martin Freeman from ‘The Responder’.

The Seven Dials Mystery will be available to stream on Netflix later this year.

House of Guinness

Steven Knight’s upcoming drama, titled House of Guinness, is expected to unfold in both 19th-century Dublin and New York. The story will explore the aftermath of Sir Benjamin Guinness’s death, a man who built the renowned Guinness brewery into an empire, and the subsequent effects of his will on the lives of his four grown children.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that an eight-episode series, meticulously crafted by the mastermind behind SAS Rogue Heroes, has graced our screens. This captivating production introduces Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O’Shea as the Guinness siblings, while James Norton from Happy Valley and Jack Gleeson of Game of Thrones bring their exceptional talents to the table as well.

House of Guinness will be available to stream on Netflix later this year.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! Grab it at your local newsstands or purchase online for only £8.99.
