What is Next for James Bond?

Some people will be fully immersed in James Bond over the holidays, but for everyone else, it’s a waiting period as the future of the film series is decided.

With Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson taking a step back, Amazon MGM Studios now has complete creative control over the future of James Bond. Ever since Daniel Craig’s final film, No Time to Die, came out in 2021, everyone’s been guessing who will be the next 007, but so far, no official decision has been made.

It’s been the longest we’ve waited for a new James Bond actor since 1989, when Timothy Dalton finished his run and Pierce Brosnan was cast. The gap between those actors was five years. Even if a new Bond is announced next year, it will still take at least another year before we see him in action on the big screen.

Denis Villeneuve will direct the first film in the new James Bond series, with the script written by Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders. Knight recently shared that working on a Bond film has been a long-held dream come true for him, telling BBC Radio 5 Live that it was a major personal and professional goal.

I’m thrilled to be asked to work on this project, and I’m eager to begin! As a lifelong Bond fan, I hope that passion will shine through in my work, allowing me to create something that honors the original while also being fresh, impactful, and exciting.

As a long-time Bond fan, I always felt Daniel Craig really revitalized the series after the somewhat over-the-top feel of Pierce Brosnan’s films. So, I’m incredibly curious to see what direction the new director, Knight, will take things. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Bond 26 when it comes out – it’ll really define how this new chapter of Bond unfolds under fresh leadership, and I’m eager to see what they do with it.
