Peacock’s limited series, All Her Fault, has ended after a suspenseful run. The show’s dramatic finale sparked a lot of conversation, and actor Jake Lacy shared his thoughts on how it all concluded.
The television series All Her Fault is adapted from Andrea Mara’s novel of the same name, with Megan Gallagher as the screenwriter. The story revolves around Marissa Irvine (played by Sarah Snook) and the mysterious disappearance of her son, Milo. After a playdate at a friend’s house, Marissa goes to pick Milo up, only to find that the host, Jenny Kaminski (Dakota Fanning), claims to have no knowledge of either of them.
A major twist in All Her Fault reveals that Milo isn’t Marissa’s biological son. Years ago, Marissa was in a car accident with a woman named Josephine Murphy, who was using the alias Carrie Finch. Both women had baby boys around the same age. To protect Marissa from the grief of losing her son, her husband, Peter Irvine, secretly switched the babies.
Once the affair was revealed, Marissa planned to kill her husband, Peter. Knowing he was severely allergic to soy, she ate something containing it and then kissed him, deliberately causing an allergic reaction. When he began to have a life-threatening reaction, she gave him an EpiPen that had already expired, and he died.
Lacy recently told Entertainment Weekly how he felt about his character’s death on the show. He admitted to having complicated feelings when he learned Peter would die, but ultimately understood the writers’ decision. While he cherished playing the role, Lacy agreed that Peter had made many bad choices and that his character’s ending was fitting.
Let’s face it, Peter’s departure was necessary. While I was sad to see him go – I really liked the character – it had to happen. The writers had a tough job crafting his exit. It’s incredibly difficult to wrap up storylines convincingly, making everything feel natural and satisfying without being too predictable, and ensuring every character gets a proper conclusion without it feeling forced. Megan did an amazing job with it. A good ending should be both surprising and feel like it was always meant to be, and I think this achieves that. Peter’s death feels logical, but the way it happens is unexpected – a perfect twist. It’s clever how they subtly hinted at it seven episodes earlier and let it build from there.
Lacy said he was as surprised by Peter’s storyline as the audience was. He didn’t know what twists were coming for his character any more than the other actors did, explaining, “I think everybody found out around the same time.”
I recently spoke with the actor about the finale, and he shared his hopes for how the audience would react. He really wanted viewers to be genuinely surprised by Peter’s choices and the ultimate direction of his story. More than that, though, he wanted a complicated reaction – he didn’t want us to simply agree or disagree with what Peter did, but to really wrestle with it, to feel conflicted about whether his actions were actually justified. He was aiming for something messy and thought-provoking, and I think he achieved it.
This show is incredibly easy to watch – you immediately want to start the next episode. It explores complex ideas about society, relationships, and gender roles, but at its heart, it’s a thrilling mystery. I want viewers to be genuinely surprised by the plot twists, constantly question what they think they know, and be kept guessing about the characters’ choices. It’s meant to be a captivating and unpredictable experience.
