A major highlight of Invincible season 4 is the bigger role played by the Viltrumite villains. The series has gradually given us more information about this powerful alien race since it began, but this season really shows us just how strong and dangerous the Viltrumites are and what they’re capable of.
The series Invincible has revealed that the Viltrumites suffered massive losses due to a brutal purge and a deadly virus. Those who remained were tasked with rebuilding their population by interbreeding with other species. This makes them incredibly ruthless and strategic, as the future of their race relies on the success of these efforts.
Season 4 of Invincible features villains like Thragg, Conquest, and Lucan, all powerful Viltrumites. The season delves deeper into these characters, exploring their motivations and the reasons behind their desire to destroy civilizations.
Conquest
First Appearance: Invincible Season 3
Conquest lived up to his name as a fierce warrior and a particularly formidable member of the Viltrumite Empire. Even among a race not known for being gentle, Conquest was exceptionally cruel. He thrived on violence and was often sent in to resolve conflicts that other Viltrumites couldn’t handle.
I first really took notice of Conquest when he was sent to check up on Mark and make sure Earth was still on track for Viltrumite domination. It was a bold move, but things didn’t exactly go his way. He actually lost and ended up imprisoned at the end of season three of Invincible. But, predictably, this guy isn’t one to stay down for long. He managed to break free and reunite with the rest of his Viltrumite crew. Talk about a threat!
The Viltrumite warrior Conquest was incredibly difficult to defeat in battle, as demonstrated repeatedly throughout the series. Mark ultimately defeated him in season 4, episode 6 of Invincible, but it was the hardest fight of his life. Conquest’s immense strength and endurance were typical of the Viltrumite race and made him a particularly formidable opponent.
Anissa
First Appearance: Invincible Season 2
Appearing near the end of Invincible season 2, Anissa signaled that the Viltrumite Empire hadn’t given up on conquering Earth. She was sent to Earth to evaluate Mark and see if he was strong enough to meet the Viltrumites’ expectations. Even in her brief appearance, Anissa proved herself to be a formidable and dangerous opponent.
The Viltrumite warrior was remarkable, not just for her incredible strength, but also for her unwavering devotion to her people’s goals. While some Viltrumites started to wonder if conquering other worlds was justified, Anissa firmly believed that less powerful civilizations were naturally meant to be ruled.
Throughout season 4 of Invincible, Anissa consistently embodies the core beliefs of the Viltrumites, and she doesn’t shy away from the difficult moral implications of her race’s powerful sense of superiority. Like other Viltrumites, she’s incredibly strong and can fly. But what truly makes her a formidable opponent is her exceptional endurance – she can battle for extended periods without tiring.
Kradd
First Appearance: Invincible Season 3
Kradd appeared in season 4, episode 5 of Invincible, and while he didn’t have much screen time compared to other Viltrumite characters, it was clear from his brief appearances that he was a highly skilled fighter who typically dominated his opponents.
Kradd fought with Thragg’s forces in a galactic war, hoping to help the Viltrumites conquer everything. Sadly, he was killed by Space Racer. This was a significant loss for the Viltrumites, who were already a dwindling race. However, Kradd’s defeat showed the Coalition of Planets that even with long odds, they had a possibility of winning against the powerful Viltrumites.
Lucan
First Appearance: Invincible Season 2
Lucan appeared in the story at a crucial time in Invincible. After Nolan’s plan on Earth fell apart, he fled to Thraxa and tried to start over. But the Viltrumites don’t easily forgive. As punishment for Nolan’s actions, his fellow Viltrumites tracked him down on the planet and brought him back to Viltrum. Lucan was among the powerful warriors sent to capture him.
The fight between Lucan, Nolan, and Mark initially suggested Lucan wasn’t as powerful as other Viltrumites we’d seen, especially since he almost lost. But Lucan quickly proved to be an incredibly formidable warrior. He withstood a massive attack from Nolan and even managed to seriously injure him, breaking Nolan’s back with a powerful kick.
Lucan reappeared in season 4 of Invincible with other Viltrumite warriors, getting ready for the battle against the Coalition of Planets. He remains an incredibly skilled fighter and consistently demonstrates his strength. Unlike some characters, Lucan’s story isn’t about personal feelings or inner struggles. Instead, he represents the Viltrumite Empire’s core idea: that only the powerful are fit to lead.
Kregg
First Appearance: Invincible Season 4
General Kregg, a high-ranking Viltrumite, appeared in the second season of Invincible and quickly established himself as an incredibly powerful character. As second-in-command, he not only lived through the devastating Scourge but was also put in charge of carrying out the Viltrumites’ plan to conquer the world.
The Viltrumites are known for being brutal, but General Kregg usually keeps that side hidden, even though he wholeheartedly believes in their goal of conquering others. He’s a practical leader who focuses on staying in control and using military strategy to achieve victory. With Kregg commanding the Viltrumite forces against the Coalition of the Planets, their odds of winning the war are significantly increased.
Thragg
First Appearance: Invincible Season 4
Thragg is the most powerful and feared Viltrumite, currently leading the empire as its Grand Regent after the previous rulers were overthrown. He’s more than just a strong warrior; he embodies the Viltrumite ideals of immense strength, believing in their genetic dominance, and their drive to conquer everything in their path.
The Viltrumites have long been suggested to have a strong leader, and Thragg finally appears in season 4 of Invincible as a major villain. What makes Thragg so interesting isn’t simply that his people both fear and admire him. As the Grand Regent, he’s ruthless, strategic, demands complete control, and expects unwavering loyalty from everyone.
So far, Thragg is the most challenging villain Mark Grayson has ever faced, and it’s unclear if he can even be overcome. We’re only beginning to explore Thragg’s story in Invincible season 4, and his fate will likely unfold throughout the season. He’s the ultimate predator in the Invincible universe, perfectly embodying the Viltrumite ideal: incredibly powerful, utterly ruthless, and nearly impossible to defeat.
