All 5 new episodes of American Horror Stories, ranked from worst to best

As a seasoned gamer and horror enthusiast who has braved countless virtual nightmares, I can confidently say that the latest offerings from American Horror Stories left me wanting more – much more. The “Huluween” event was supposed to be a thrilling ride, but it felt like a haunted rollercoaster with broken wheels.

This year’s Huluween event on the streaming platform saw the unveiling of five fresh episodes from American Horror Stories. Notable actors such as Debby Ryan, Victor Garber, Henry Winkler, and Michael Imperioli graced these new installments.

For those who may not be aware, this show is a spin-off from an extended series that broadcasts on FX, known as an anthology series. Unlike previous seasons where each one presents a distinct story, in this case, every single episode offers something unique. We’ve arranged the five most recent episodes, which collectively form season 3B.

5. Leprechaun

“The TV show portrayed ‘Leprechaun’ as if it were an unused episode from ‘Supernatural’. It was hard to make leprechauns frightening because there aren’t many horror movies about them apart from one well-known series. This episode mainly lacked leprechauns and the special effects seemed poorly done. The overall impression was that of a forgettable heist story with an average twist, and it didn’t make good use of June Squib.

4. Backrooms

Among all five fresh episodes, I found “Backrooms” to be the most underwhelming for me as a fan. Being well-versed in the intriguing internet folklore surrounding The Backrooms, I had high expectations of how captivating this story could have been. However, this episode appeared to miss the mark on what makes The Backrooms so eerie and unsettling at its core. It was still enjoyable to see Michael Imperioli make an appearance, but unfortunately, not even his talent could rescue this particular episode.

3. Clone

Frankly speaking, I didn’t find “Clone” particularly enjoyable. It landed in third place merely because “Leprechaun” was terribly disappointing, and “Backrooms” fell flat. The film does get a modicum of credit for its unexpected twist ending, but overall it wasn’t scary at all. It was essentially another sci-fi tale about artificial intelligence and the people who utilize it, with an attempt to add a unique spin, albeit unsuccessfully in my opinion.

2. The Thing Under the Bed

In this episode, Debby Ryan gives a performance that offers a fresh perspective on the classic “monster-under-the-bed” theme. It wasn’t bad, but it felt quite familiar. The plot seemed to evoke memories of ‘Supernatural’, reminiscent of an installment in a weekly monster series. This isn’t necessarily a negative aspect, just didn’t leave me particularly impressed. However, I did find the gloomy conclusion intriguing. Interestingly, most episodes from this show end quite darkly, and that might be one of its few strong points.

1. X

To rephrase, let me express my thoughts differently: Earlier on, I pointed out that I felt all five recent installments of “American Horror Stories” were disappointing overall. However, if I were to select a standout among them, it would undeniably be the one titled “X.” Mia Isaac delivered an exceptional performance as Claire, a nurse who bravely exposes a horrifying secret within her workplace hospital. The black-and-white cinematography of this episode was aesthetically pleasing and added to its overall style. It was one of the few episodes that genuinely sent shivers down my spine. Plus, it was great to see Henry Winkler in the cast.

To form your own opinion about the latest episodes of “American Horror Stories”, why not check them out immediately on Hulu?
