Initially, Dan Trachtenberg surprised everyone with a gripping prequel to the Predator series titled Prey, and later directed one of the top-notch installments in the Alien series. Remarkably, both films were produced under Disney’s banner, a move that many thought would spell doom for these franchises. Following the trailer release for Trachtenberg’s upcoming movie, Predator: Badlands, which incorporates an Easter egg referencing the Alien universe through Elle Fanning’s android character being manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani corporation, a fresh gossip has emerged suggesting that the long-anticipated crossover of these two sci-fi franchises might occur much sooner than initially believed.
According to Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic, there’s a rumor swirling around that Álvarez’s sequel to ‘Romulus’ might incorporate the Predator character, thus merging the two franchises for the first time since the controversial ‘Alien vs Predator’ films from 2004 and 2007. It was only a matter of time before these iconic film series intertwined, especially with Disney’s penchant for interconnected IP universes and the triumph of Warner Bros. and Legendary’s ‘MonsterVerse’. The fact that this merging is happening sooner than expected may seem surprising, but given recent comments from both directors, it might not be such a shock after all.
Will Fede Álvarez and Dan Trachtenberg Work Together on an ‘Alien’ and ‘Predator’ Movie?

The films “Prey” and “Alien: Romulus” emerged as standouts within their respective “Predator” and “Alien” series, reigniting enthusiasm for the sci-fi properties. With the upcoming TV show, “Alien: Earth,” director Trachtenberg’s “Predator: Badlands,” and the animated compilation, “Predator: Killer of Killers,” there is a palpable excitement among fans about what future developments might bring.
Previously, Álvarez mentioned the potential collaboration with Trachtenberg on a joint film, expressing, “Perhaps it’s something I should co-direct with my friend Dan. Maybe we could emulate Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez in ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, where each of us directs separate halves.
I, as an ardent fan of the Alien franchise, am thrilled about Álvarez’s announcement that his upcoming film will venture into uncharted territories. He promises to lead us to places in this saga that we’ve never been before, revealing secrets we’ve yet to uncover. Although Trachtenberg remains tight-lipped about potential crossovers, the head of 20th Century Studios, Steve Asbell, emphasized that any Alien/Predator movie should unfold naturally.
It won’t be like the traditional Alien vs. Predator concept, as you might think. Instead, if we proceed with this idea, the new stories would emerge naturally from both franchises, featuring characters we care about who may eventually interact…possibly. However, we haven’t reached that stage yet, and we won’t rush things.
Despite the possibility of Álvarez’s upcoming “Alien” film showcasing a Predator character, it seems we might be quite a few years away from a complete crossover event. The specifics of what this collaboration could bring are yet unclear, but if Álvarez and Trachtenberg team up, the project would appear to be in capable hands.
